Edinburgh Trial 2003

Reality has dawned - John Aley has sent me the electronic route card so I know its all for real!!!

Not done this Trial before and need some advice on overnight accommodation. Need somewhere within walking (carrying?) distance of the Pavilion Gardens for the Club Supper. It will be for Trish and we hope to stay over to make it a long weekend as neither of us know the area so would like to do some exploring on the Sunday/Monday assuming I survive the Trial!

Any advice welcomed.

  1. Brian, There are two places I can reccomend: 1) Griffs Guest House on 01298 71778, or 2) Braemar on 01298 78050 or 78246 Stuart H and I have stayed at both and they are good.  I hope they are within staggering distance of the Supper venue, otherwise we will be in trouble.  Failing that, try Google with 'Buxton' and then following the links. However, a warning.  The official Buston site tells you to call or write for an accomodation brochure which you may not want to do. There is another site which comes up on the search which does give a list of B&Bs etc. Alternatively go to your local Citizen's Advice Bureau and they are likely to have the Buxton area guide which will contain all the info you need.  If not. you' be able to order it for very quick delivery. Good luck

  2. Thanks Chris - the Braemar looked good so e-mailed them but, before they replied (they still haven't actually so I assume they are full), I had a phone call from Roger Cantle (who is competing in Class O with his immaculate DR350) who carelessly had lost all his travelling companions!   After carefully negotiating Mrs S out of the promised long w/e in the Peaks (oddly enough it wasn't at all difficult!), I confirmed with Roger and, after much phoning around, he got what seems to be the last bit of accommodation in the area at Bank Top Farm, Hartington. Four other traillers already booked there apparently so maybe some chance of sharing transport to the Club Supper. Anyone from here at Top Bank?   Now all I need is to get a decent rear tyre fitted, put the MT43 back on the front, sort out a decent headlight and start to sort out the roadbook! What have I forgotten....   Brian
