class 5...section 2....questions?

the new subsection to class 5 rules...namely non-production cars made from pre ww2 parts.?

Exactly what pre WW2 parts are needed to fulfill the criteria?...suspension, I can understand...engine/gearbox, perhaps....but does the rule also require a pre WW2 chassis?...steering?...axle?....or could I build a special just using pre WW2 running gear and engine?

Also, in view of the additional vehicles mentioned in class 2 regs, eg Ford sidevale uprights, HRG's Morgan 4/4 seeries one, etc....would mechanical and/or chassis components from THESE be eligible?

or will my CAnnon, with it's pre war axle, sidevalve engine, and rubbish driver still be condemned to class 8?

  1. Prewar chassis most definately.   Alas your Cannon, with its high tech tubular space frame is still condemned to Class 8. Even with a pre ww2 driver  .

  2. Sugar!     cannon chassis only hi tech in scuttle area....rest of chassis is low tech....or even subterrainian tech......   ww2 chassis?.......does that then exclude a chassis from a '54 Ford Pop 103E?   which may have been made from steel produced before WW2?   How come HRG's are included in class 2?   surely they represent the height of post war performance cars? sort of TVR of the 40's?   Pre WW2 chassis....how does one "prove" that?......bearing in mind, age related plates have more or less ended...plates from scotland unissued from the early 60's seemingly being the norm? Or does a V5 accompaniment an essential?     sorry...just seems to be a nice way to go with trialling?
