I am looking for a light wt car .Cannon, Buckler etc to build for field trials and perhaps longer events.Must have infomation to gain a V5.We all know what the D.V.L.A. require.Thank you
dellowman, I have a chassis and ali body which look a little like a Dellow, which is a Morris special inc tax exempt V5. I got this to build a class 8 car, but a year on has not been touched due to lack of time and other unfinished projects. Is this the sort of thing that may be of intrest ? NoiseyCheney ( Richard 07768 104132 )
Richard (Clarke) - In keeping with our real names policy I had better clarify that Dellowman is Ross Nuten, a near neighbour and clubmate. Guys I would appreciate you signing posts with your real name, adding a bit about yourselves in "Our members" and ideally going into your profile and changing your nickname to your real name. Just like Michael Leete, Simon Woodall, Andrew Brown etc. It's in our rules! If you check in Documents you will see I have started a membership list of non-real names nicknames. Unfortunately the majority of people don't apply using their real name and I turn them away if I don't know who they are. Two reasons for this They may be spammers They may be triallers trying to have an annomous pop at someboddy or other These days if I can work out who someone is I let them in and ask them to change afterwards. I have an application with a strange nickname from Dean Vowden and I certainkly don't want to turn him away. Michael
I have added a "Membership List" which you can see on the Menu and only I can edit. (Our Members you do yourself). I think this is the best compromise as to read the nfile in documents you had to have excel. Michael
If you are looking for a car to replace the Dellow, then a Buckler Type53 is really just a variation on the Side-Valve Dellow theme. Being Side-Valve, it will be less competitive than the Dellow, and just as difficult to maintain. Although the Dellow fraternity is happy with the OHV conversions done on those cars, the Buckler crowd like to keep the cars original. I suspect that this car is not what you are looking for.
Who said I was replacing the Dellow!.The Buckler which I have not seen detail on is a Class 8 car already.I am sure that there are many owners who hate the thought of updating cars with history, including the Dellow clan.I think seeing a trials car sat in a garage or at a show being polished, is like using a 4x4 for the school run, or Driving a XK220 up and down Oxford street at 20 m.p.h. There is space for standard and modified cars in trials. How many cars do you know sat doing nothing, or one day cars slowly rotting away. Let them be used for the purpose. But thats my opinion.Thank you for sharing yours. Ross Nuten (Still looking for a project)
I think you said it all in one of your last notes. You were in B&Q at Easter. And where was I?Nothing like a bit of banter.Best wishes Ross Nuten( very modified Dellow built from a few rusting parts saved from the tip)
to be right, one's presence, or not, on the Land's End trial, or wherever, is far from relevant. I was in B&Q's competitors on Easter saturday. for no other reason than i didn't bother to enter the lands end.... and probably wont, for cost reasons.. but I have entered...and finished, and achieved awards...even a photo in triple, clearing Sims in a Skoda! says nowt in the bigger picture! Just because a car is deemed a class 8 vehicle, doesnt necessarily mean it is a "competitive" machine...simply that it is a non-production car that doesn't fit class 7! Simon was just trying to be objective. As usual he makes a valid point. a buggy seems a good idea.....wish I had one! Instead I have a mouldering Cannon! ?
for the moment, yes...... but you really would despair at it if you saw it...which you may have done already. engineering best practice is considered a very black art around here. although registered on a Q plate, I really couldn't bring myself (or my welder) to effect a Dean Partington transformation on it. It arrived with an A-series 1098 engine and 'box, Austin (8) axle and Ford Y-type axle up front. some devious investigation revealed it MAY have been one of the few grasstrack cars produced? Grasstracking in a Cannon? Apparently they were competitive. I'd call them frightening! It has had a Ford 10hp sidevalver as well...deviously tuned to boot (42bhp at the wheels?) this was only because (a) I had the motor, and (b) the mounts were already there, but I have had problems converting the gearbox to hardy spicer propshaft, from torque tube! The rear axle frequently bent and snapped the A frame location system....it has got steadily heavier in construction, now I have devised an as yet unproven A- frame subframe, to which I (U-bolt) fix a suzuki van axle! Unsprung weight? what's that? still, sky-high unsprung weight might be useful in a trials car? the major interior problem is that the passenger gets an infinitely more comfortable ride than the driver! and the body skin was an old advertising hoarding! I have yet to cover the writing on the inside! you REALLY wouldn't like it! honest! nobody else does!
hi ross Re that Buckler MK53. Its Ford 1600 powered with 105e gearbox and back axle. Yes like most Dellows it been converted. Sorry, forgot to leave phone number 01788 572848. Brian Malin
All I was saying really was that if you want a car for events where you don't want to use the Dellow, why buy what is in effect another Dellow? Except that Dellows were popular and sold well, whereas Bucklers are less common. (Because one was a bettertrials car than the other? )
Intersting point by Simon, I agree not much difference between a Buckler and a Dellow. The thought occurs to me Ross, why not seek out the RDT that Reg Taylor built for local trials and then went through the hands of Mike Furse (pictured in the MCC book) and Graham Marshall. Mike got his triple with it and Graham was very successful with the car but didn't like the way it handled on the road and had David Alderson adapt it to Beetle torsion bar fron suspension but I am sure this could be changed back. As far as I know Graham still has the car but hasn't uded it for many years. Michael
Mike,Reg and I were only looking at the pictures of Mike furse in the very same car on saturday, It was a trial over at Tring just a few years ago!!.If it was still around i am sure that Reg would like to see it again. Do you have much contact with Graham Marshall? Ross
ON the subject of Dellows and Bucklers. I have driven a standard side valve Dellow on cable brakes.Yes its the same make of car but I think there is a lot of difference. In some situations the original spec car has its advantages,I do like the front and back hand brake lever for example. However having the extra power usually gets you out of trouble. If my project starts I will be very surprised if it will be better than a Dellow. 50 years old and still giving many a special a hard time. On the subject of Dellows, when will we see yours out again? Ross
Ross, Regarding Graham Marshall I will give Mike Pearson a ring tonight. I think Graham either lived in Hemel Hempstead or ran a transport business in Hemel Hempstead. If we can't find out that way we will need to go to the ACTC and/or MCC and see if they can help from their old membership lists. Graham was a SODs (now defunct) member but never in Falcon. Talking of sidevalves and cable brakes, I went out with Dave Nash in Neil's C type Ford on Sunday. We did about 100 miles, following Neil in his Y. Super fun. Regarding my Dellow, and the Beetle come to that, they are still in the old family home and I am living elsewhere while my divorce gets sorted. I'm living in a rented place at the moment and don't want to take the cars round there. I did drive the Dellow for an hour on Saturday, super fun. I am looking for a double garage, workshop and extensive parking, oh and there had better be some sort of place to live, in Beds/Herts/Bucks/Cambs, although until the legal stuff is sorted I can't actually commit but I enjoy looking on www.rightmove.co.uk There was a super place just north of Bedford with three double garages and a two bedroomed semi detached cottage but some b*****d snapped it up! My next trial is riding shotgun for Simon Groves on The Kyrle (which means I will miss the Falcon event). Michael
Have you checked the "FOR SALE" section on the Dellow Register website?

ReplyDelete\Thank you Brian, found some interesting sites. But could not find the car.Could you give me another clue?. Ross Nuten
