Edinburgh Trial - how was yours ?

Just returned after this weekend's excellent Edinburgh Trial.

A fantastic turnout of Liege, and mostly travelling together, so a true "Luxurience of Liege" could be seen by an appreciative public as well as a knowledgeable Trials community, (Matt even had a chap who had been driving past the "Bull i'Thorn" stop and come back to ask all about Tweetie Pie and where could he buy a kit to build one for himself ? (now there's a question).

We had everthing Liege this weekend, a supercharged car, a class 8 Fiat engined car and lots of Reliant engines in various stages of tune.
We also had cars running on the standard Avon SM's, cars running on Taxi tyres, and two running on the newly legal 15" rims with some very nice Firestone F 560 tyres.
Everyone finished, but nobody was able to claim Gold, - it was a tough trial and Litton Slack beat us all, Great Hucklow beat virtually all, and then a variety of other hills and restarts took their toll, (including Bamford Clough which nearly claimed Matt and I).
A super and genuine welcome at Hollinsclough Village Hall with a fantastic selection of home-made cakes and scones, (pronounce it as you will), to enjoy with your cuppa in the afternoon sunshine.
The colour for the weekend if you were driving a Liege appears to be Bronze, with serveral of us claiming one. We shall have to wait and see if the marshalls agree when the results are published.
A really good event, rough in places but a true challenge and well laid out so a big "thank you" to the organisers.

Great turnout at the dinner afterwards as well.

Hope you all had good homeward journeys.
All the best,
SimonR

  2. Trying to work out who got a triple and who didn't. Barty and Arnie went gold, also Dave H. I know Bill R and Nicola both came to grief of the rocks of Great Hicklow. Any one know about Bill Bennett? Was Bill clean. If you know and aren't a member can you email me at classictrials@googlemail.com.   News on the bikers also welcome.   Michael

  3. Saw Bill at Hollinsclough.  He reckons he got as far as the A boards on Litton.  We have no knowledge of anyone else in Class 2 cleaning Litton so it may get cancelled or the A boards may count.  John Green blew his engine up in the Austin 7 and retired at Litton.  We had a fantastic event.  Friday morning replacement handbrake cables were a good investment.  A gear selection problem did not intervene too much.  Who needs second gear anyway? Well done the organisers.  Our most enjoyable Edinburgh in 14 years of competing.

  5. Well I managed to follow the blog on my mobile. Good effort Michael.   Pictures looks really good. I really like the shot of the valley at Bamford and the rocks at Great Hucklow.

  6. I had a great Edinburgh! It was a real shame that Primrose blew her diff after the restart on Great Hucklow .. another 20 feet and Neil could of claimed gold! Thanks to everyone who helped us change it so we could continue and finish, who needs the AA when you have back up like the Falcons!! The dinner was good too and everyone that stayed had stories to tell Thanks to all of you for a great Edinburgh 2006! 7. excellent trial.....not too long a delay at Litton..seems the class 0's were having a problem moving off...and the rest of us had to wait for a gap.....pleasures of a fairly early running number?   the Rapid went well...pity about the route card...somehow placing a bright pink 'R' next to those sections where we had a restart, got missed in the excitement..so we stopped when we ought not to...and didn't where we ought!   In fact, one re-start marshall appeared quite irate when we didn't stop...which we weren't supposed to.........just wonder how the others will be recorded?   perhaps I need a much bigger white sticker?   and a sunvisor that doesn't drop down across my eyes at particularly ackward moments?   the live blog would indeed have been interesting...had the phone battery not died on me.   didn't get up Litton..likewise Great Hucklow...and didn't get going on Excelsior.....the rest were down to the crew!   Must try stopping somewhere else on Excelsior next year?

  9. Great photos at Litton Duncan.  Did the Red Escort's plumbed-in fire extinguishers put the fire out half way up the hill or did the sump run out of oil at the point???

  10. Dick Bolt blew a Core Plug out of the block in his brand new engine around the restart box. It was "only" water spraying out onto the exhaust but certainly did look good! Unbelievably two cars later the core plug was found and hammered back into the block at the bottom of the hill.

  11. Parking at the top of Litton.   Just through the gateway on the right was a car parked this year right infront of the MCC No Parking sign. Initially we thought that it was from the houses at the top of the road, but on closer inspection it had a route card on the top of the dashboard.   Think that it gave a few of competitors a big shock as the went through the gateway at speed. How Sticker didnt collect the car let alone the gate only he will know!   I know that we are short of marshall's (assuming that it was a marshall's - as it was there for all the time I was) but surely this is not an example to set.   What would have happened if someone hit it?
