Hagley and District Light Car Club 1948

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=H2hebvbZWSI&eurl=http://www.hdlcc.com/history.php

Just had a freind who is a club member point this out to me, fantastic piece of footage. The worrying bit is if you removed the grainey effect and added some colour it could be a trial from 2008!

The Future of the Classical gas Message Board

Microsoft will no longer support MSN Groups from February 2009. My plan is to migrate all the data (all messages and pictures) from The Classical Gas Message Board into another system so you can continue to use the service as you have done for the last ten years and hopefully it will be better. Will keep you posted - Michael

Spare wheel positions, suspension mods

A few questions just in-case anyone knows the answer, or can point me in the right direction.

Spare wheels - I knew where I was with Class 7 regs - they tell me precisely where I can put the spares.  Any other class, say class 5, I can't seem to find much - yet I've seen all sorts of cars with spares on the boot lids etc.  Are there any regs regarding positions?

Suspensions - rules state that original mountings, spring positions much be used, although additional shocks, springs and linkages can be used.  So if I leave the mountings alone, can I "adjust" other aspects of suspension arms - lengthen, shorten, twist them?  A potential competition car would need a few "tweeks" to get it's bum off the ground!

Ebworth Trial

Spent Saturday in the woods in Gloucestershire at the Stroud & District Ebworth Trial,

A really enjoyable event set in a wonderful wooded setting.  Unfortunately the bright sun shining through the green leaves gave all my photos a greenish tint, which I had to Photoshop out, and the contrast between shadow and bright sunlit patches made photography entertaining.  Anyway enough of the excuse

Sunnyside 2 was the first section I covered in the morning.  Most spectacular was Harvey Waters, whose Ford Pop made an astonishing climb, but an even more exciting decent, crossways across the slope.  Unfortunately, photography had to stop while I stood on the rear bumper to stop it tipping over.

Woodman's Trump was a stiff climb, made better for the last run, by a well placed restart, most exciting was Rick Neale, who took out several markers and a couple of trees as he powered the Melos up the final slope.

The final section I visited was Beechwood a straightforward blast up a hill side track

Finally there are a few pictures of the start and finish.

As uual let me know if you want any photos.

Confused

Could some one please enlighten me as to the rules of what engines are allowed in which cars and the vehicle stays in class and not moved to class 7.For example the Mk1 Ford Escort, as I see it the options are: 1100, 1300 1600 crossflow, 1600 Lotus twincam, 1600 BDA and 2000 pinto. Are there any others that are allowed and the car stays in class?

Need any Marlin Bits

I have in my possession a brand new Marlin (Marina Based) kit.  Never constructed.  The chassis is rolling and trial-fitted with a 1.7 'O' series and gearbox.  Prop mods are done.  All panels are brand new and yet to be fitted.  I also have a windscreen, dashboard blank, in short, loads of brand new stuff.  If interested, email me on:

I will send you a complete list of parts and prices.

Need any genuine Marlin bits?

Hi.  I have one too many Marlins, to the point where marital bliss may be compromised!  See Sales & Wants for details.

Edinborough Trial Photos

I didn't have too much on luck Saturday.  I went to the top of Banford Clough, to take photos, where the open ground allowed quite a bit of light in.  I did try to go lower down, but the trees stopped too much light.  That of course meant that I didn't see any of you who failed to get off the restart.  I also had a lot of trouble with rain on the lens, which gave a delightful "soft" feel to the photos, great for portraits, but not too much good for action photos.

Still some of the photos came out OK, and Bamford was set in lovely country side.

So here they are, Ive grouped them into:-

Bikes

Outfits

Saloon Cars

Open cars

If anyone wants decent copies let me know and I'll put them on my other site.

My Edinburgh Trial

How was your Edinburgh?

I was running second car which turned out to be an advantage when we got to Moneystones, where the deviation was still grassy! Didn't progress very far up Litton Slack although we did see a couple of chairs go clean, including Celia I think. Well done. As to the cars I have only heard of three cleans, Dudley, Ray Goodright and Eric Wall.

Missed not doing Putwell and Haggside, but personally pleased that the deviation on Great Hucklow is now fenced off and out of bounds. Mind you the section we used seemed much roughre than I remember, a bit challenging for Class 0 I thought.

We failed the restart on Excelsior but I understand that was cancelled later so perhaps a silver for us.
