Hi There Michael
I am looking for help with steering on a marlin kit car running on marina front legs and rack, 4 turns lock to lock is like driving a boat, need a higher gear, Arnie Martin said you maybe able to help with this matter or know someone who can.
Many thanks in anticipation
Alan Nelson
I don't know an easy way to reduce the number of turns lock-to-lock, but the turning circle can be reduced by fitting Steve Holder's shortened steering arms - http://www.fourtune-engineering.co.uk/
ReplyDeleteAs Andrew said, the modified steering arms greatly improve the lock and as you then have more lock for your 4 turns in effect you get a higher ratio. I know Leyland ST produced a high ratio rack back in the 70s but I have never seen one. Don't forget to check the brake lines both flexible and solid for clearance if you fit the modified arms.

hi folks sunday 8 Feb
ReplyDeletemany thanks for the advice, steering arms would seem to be the obvious answer and I will be in touch with Fortune Engineering on monday I will
check brake pipes etc.and probably renew along with tie rods and ends
the rack itself seems to be ok, much apreciated Alan.
