Pasties ? What pasties ? OK I knew that 2009 L.E. was the same as 2008 without a detour half way up the Roost and without the Pasties ! We had a great event. Not easy but achieved our own goals. Ceila had a tumble upon Blue Hills, a bit more than a "Wasp sting" but is now up and about with her arm in plaster. The boys upon Blue Hills 2 were very quick to their aid and all credit to them. Any one asking Roger and his team for the same again 2010 ?
Superb event .
ReplyDeletejust enough local rain to make most of the sections a real challenge .
Same again next year would be something to Really look forward to .
Interesting aside , Michael mentions his Twit , hitting the Darracot 'R' board .
I can't find anything in the SSR's or Route card that mentions a penalty for hitting 'R' boards , or tape ; except for the special tests where it is very clear that hitting anything counts as a penalty .
Have I missed something , or is it just a common assumption that 'R' boards and tape count as penalties ?
I am under the impression that boards and posts can be hit on Classic trials. There were many incredulous comments a few years ago on the first of the recent Ilkley events when competitors were penalised for such things, this led me to the conclusion that it must be OK normally. Maybe it is just an MCC rule?
ReplyDeleteStriking a numbered marker or a post that defines the route does not generally attract a penalty in classic trials.
ReplyDeleteBut in principle you have to follow the route of the section so if you went '4 wheels out' you could be deemed to have left the section at that point and could be penalised at that point. On a proper classic trials section this would be pretty well impossible as it would involve driving through a stone wall, hedge or tree ie the boundary of the section would be defined by a natural feature. You wouldn't want to go '4 wheels out' on Blue Hills 2. It is possible to go '4 wheels out' on forestry and field sections and then get back on track although this is not always penalised.
More recently some organisers have started to penalise you if you hit a restart marker. Others specify that you mustn't strike tape used to define the route.
On special tests striking a marker usually results in some sort of penalty. In some cases eg MCC trials it is equivalent to failing a section. On some events it attracts eg 6 penalty points. In others you 'only' get a time penalty eg slowest time in your class + 10 seconds.
All of this will be stated in the regs for each event and in some cases repeated in the route card...
Looking at the results I didn't get penalised for hittting the R board on Darracott.
ReplyDeleteIs this any thing to do with Smug Mug ?
