Been to look at some of the sections this afternoon. Unless we have a drought over the next 3 weeks it going to be a heck of a lot more slippery than back in Sept .
We have some wicked deviations for class 8 and only one re-start line on Tipley so if your in class 3 burn baby burn !!!!!
You all missed having a go at Simms back in Jan, so come on down to Devon on Sunday March 21st and have some fun. Start venue very easy to get to right beside M5.
I never thought i say this but thank goodness for the four wheel drive brigade! they really use Simms a lot these days and a combination of four wheels digging and continuous frosts this winter, some of the dreaded concrete is beginning to lift........
That's great news about Simms Greg, maybe one day it will get back to the fantastic section it once was before it was ruined by concrete!
ReplyDeleteWhats the story about the concrete?
ReplyDeleteAbout 4/5 years ago MCC filled it full of concrete because it was too hard? rough? god knows..... Hence why it has not been the same since.
ReplyDeleteMichael, I think it was Roger Ugalde that supervised the concrete. From memory I think he also explained why this was done at the time via MCC Newsletters or Triple. Problem was 4wds stopping and playing on the slab and creating v deep holes/ruts. Apparently there was a Dartmoor 4wd business which enjoyed taking people to play on Simms. Not sure if it is still active or whether Greg's comment is about individual 4wds using Simms on their own.
ReplyDeleteSimms could still be a stiff challenge on the Exeter...different combinations of start/restart positions and tyre pressure restrictions could make it much more difficult to climb than it has been in recent years.
I'm less excited than Greg that the 4wds use Simms alot these days. Where this has happened elsewhere on trials sections the result has often been:
lots of 4wd use = no more trials use...
Riverton on the Lands End, Hungerford on the Clee, Daws Tump & Lane End on the Kyrle etc etc
