Due to Auto Sport Engineering’s (Tran-X Parent Company) substantial growth and the fact key members of Tran-X staff are moving on, Tran-X will cease trading within the next 3 months.
I'm still on the case, guys. The engineer behind the product has left, but the parent company is still deciding on which bits of the business it wants to carry on with. Meantime, I'll get back to Elite in Stafford to see if they're interested in expanding their range from the Ford English axle, Sierra and Vauxhall F16.
Quaife have now acquired Tran-X. see below Sevenoaks, June 21st 2012
Effective immediately, leading high performance drivetrain specialist RT Quaife Engineering Ltd is delighted to announce the purchase of all tooling, designs and intellectual property relating to the Tran-X brand of transmission components from its parent company Auto Sport Engineering of Coventry.
As such, Quaife is now able to offer Tran-X’s existing trade and retail customers the vast majority of the firm’s current range ex-stock, including the popular Tran-X clutch plate limited slip differentials, close-ratio gearkits and Ford English / Atlas axle crownwheel and pinion sets.
Quaife has transferred production capability for the Tran-X range to its Sevenoaks headquarters, where manufacturing of new Tran-X stock is already underway to ensure continuity of supply.
Existing retail pricing for the Tran-X brand will be held in the short term but placed under review. Quaife also aims for a continuation of existing sales relationships with Tran-X’s trade clients, both in the United Kingdom and internationally.
The directors of Auto Sport Engineering are pleased to have completed the sale of Tran-X to Quaife Engineering. Auto Sport Director, Peter Edge said, “We feel we have taken Tran-X as far as we can and are delighted that a market leader such as Quaife Engineering will be involved in the future development of the brand.”
Commenting on the announcement, Quaife Director Sharon Quaife-Hobbs said: “Tran-X was launched over thirty years ago and the brand is well known amongst professional motorsport teams, club racers and car enthusiasts. The acquisition of Tran-X by Quaife allows us to seamlessly integrate the company’s product range into Quaife’s facilities and stringent quality criteria, whilst bringing it to a much larger potential market.”
“We now offer Quaife’s transmission customers a greater choice of differential options to suit their individual driving preferences, styles and technical requirements than ever before,” comments Quaife Director Michael Quaife. “In addition, key Tran-X products such as the English and Atlas crown wheel and pinions sets perfectly complement Quaife’s current high performance driveline product range.”
I can see why the Auto Sport Engineering folk were being coy on the 16th, with negotiations finalising! Thanks Richard for the update - I'll follow up with Quaife immediately - maybe my keen contact has moved there.
I'm delighted to report that Quaife are only too keen to take products like the 'Trials Diff' forward. Their Commercial man confirmed that they have taken over all designs, rights and truckfuls of machines and parts from Coventry-based Tran X: the owner of Auto Sport Engineering had 'hung up his racing gloves' and sold amicably to Quaife. The staff in Sevenoaks are now working through all that they've acquired, and they see the open 4 pin product as quite complementary to their own worm gear LSD unit. So I've given him an update on our status, the good performance of the 'try out' unit in Alan Cundy's Golf, and will follow up in a couple of weeks.
An update: Mark Caterall is the Quaife Commercial guy acting as our contact for the ex-Tran-X diffs now. He has confirmed that they are now in a position to take orders for open diffs that cover Tran-X's original range, ie:
English Ford, Vauxhall Nova/Corsa, MGB/C Salisbury, Sierra 7", Ford Fiesta/Ka/Focus IB5, VW Golf 020, MGB banjo, Peugeot 106/Saxo MA, BMC Mini, Alfa 105, Hillman Imp, Austin Healey and Triumph TR. I also understand that Pug BE3 is scheduled soon.
Mark will be placing an ad in Restart, but meantime his contact number is 01732 742144 and mark@quaife.co.uk.
Thats a real shame after all the work Adtrain TP & others put in.

ReplyDeleteIf Quaife are unhelpful it might be worth trying to get a set of drawings and specifications for the new diff.
