Exmoor Clouds Trial

Has anyone got details of the results of the Exmoor? We were about the second or third car to sign off at around 5.30 p.m. so guess it was a late finish for most cars. An enjoyable event with glorious weather and scenery. Its still a bit rough as the bent lower wishbones on my Troll show. But great to be trialing again.

  1. Stuart  I don't know what happened in the other classes but I believe that Adrian Marfell was the man for us to beat as he went clear all day!!  Dudley Sterry was pushing him close at the finish (helped by some rare and determined bouncing on the Ski Slope restart) but didn't get out of the final class 8 only section.   We had a pretty uncompetitive day but enjoyed the challenging sections, the beautiful scenery and the great weather.  Good to see a few more Trolls out and about too...    It is still a pretty rugged event but I'm not sure if it is anymore so than when we were competing in the late 80s/early 90s when the Downscombe sections were included in the route.  See you on the Exeter  Ian Davis

  2. Dear Stuart - Nice of you to think of those further down the field on Sunday. At the other end we ran last car getting into the finish at 8.40pm. I had hopped that being a fine day with a slight breeze ground conditions and grip might fravour late runners. A nice thought but this I now now may only apply to beans! Ski Slope was a section that I had not seen before but belived it to fall in the class of a classic. Towards the end of the day a wet patch had appeared 25yards from the bottom of the section. This area resulting in more failures than earlier in the day. "They" say its a nice view from the top. Great day out - nice people and beautiful country side. Yours      Jonathan & Ann Laver.

  3. We enjoyed the trial more than we expected to, its not a trial that we usually include in our personal calendar.   I have had some offline comments from people that it was a bit too rough for saloons, and Stuart's damage to a wishbone seems to bear this out but Jon's comment do not.   I fell foul of hitting a marker on Allercott - this is one of my personal hates.   I equate "marker bashing" with PCT's rather than Classics and would like to see the rule changed but a number of organisers think differently. There is a way out of the top of Ski slope, but the less powerful cars might be glad of the mud at the bottom stopping them from getting too high onto the seriously steep stuff and having to come down a long way.   It was just great to be back in the car again. ( I was in the Buggy for this one, not the Giraffe. )

  4. Simon I certainly agree with your comments regarding Allercott, I too came around the left hand corner on full chat and managed to climb to the top but was dismayed to be penalized for running over the 5to1 markers as I used them for more grip. As far as roughness, myself in class 1 found the hills challenging but not damaging. Most of the field got held up when the Range Rover came to my aid in Middlecombe Woods only for the driver to put the 4x4 over the edge, by the time the tractor pulled the Rover back up the way out was blocked. With the help of Paul Allaway Mike Collins (class one) the golf was on it's way, but this added to a late finish. By the time Aaron and I had finished our carveries we arrived home late, but well pleased to be turning the wheels again. Many thank's Minehead Motor club for our days sport and FUN.

  5. Well the results arrived and make interesting reading, some scores, mine included read like a cricket score! Congratulations to Adrian Marfell for cleaning the trial and to Paul Bartleman for second overall in his newly aquired Troll on only its second outing. Wonder why he calls it a Ford special? Stuart
