Hope you all enjoyed the trial,
I ended up watching the first 30-40 cars on 3 hills Hungerford, Longville & the one further down the road. Ended up giving the Singer a good 100+ mile round trip test in the end. Glad I did as a rear axle problem in the form of a "clunking" has manifested itself with a small amount of play at the wheel.
Does anyone know when the TV programme going out?

Mike Hayward and I enjoyed our trial, even though I was struggling a bit after being really poorly on Thursday night and Friday. We were running towards the end of the field so the early numbers had ploughed some really deep ruts. This caused a major delay on the 2nd hill and Simon cancelled this for Classes 0, 5 and 1 who were running behind us. So very soon we were running in the tail end charlie group of last cars and continued at the back the rest of the way round, being followed by the Course Closing Van over the Long Mynd. All this means I have very few pics (I will post them) and don't know what went on. So - News and Pictures are very welcome. Anything at all will help. Of course if anyone fancies writing an article...... How was your Clee ??? Michael
ReplyDeleteI had hoped this topic might come up! I was running car number 1 in my Troll and I can assure you all that if there were deep ruts they were there before the trial started. I have never driven the Troll in such bad conditions. We just bottomed out in the ruts on many sections. I acted as bulldozer clearing some of the way for the later numbers. I think we only cleaned 3 hills and of the remainder a 12 was the worse and we seemed to average around 8. When we arrived at section 2 it looked like a bog and the recovery Land Rover was stuck at the 5 marker. The Land Rover was extracted and off we went finally getting to the hugh holes the Land Rover had dug and there we stopped, I reckon the ruts were 18 inches deep. I think Simon was a little optimistic in where he thought cars would go in the wet conditions. Pressure limmits were not required on Sunday. It would seem that many sections could do with loads of stone to repair them before they are used again. The roadbook must be the best of any, accurate and informative. Lets hear some more views. ReplyDeleteJust looked at the Clee results. Michael Class 4 win & 3rd overall. Well done!! A "1" on the 2nd section looks very good. I know that Dad could not believe the amount of mud of the section which possibly led to his retirement. Mark

It's more than ten years since I started trialling again so I had to win something sometime! "every dog has his day" as they say. What happened to Bill? We followed him round until just before Hungerford when he stopped for petrol so we went up before him and never saw him again. I know the Imp didn't have any amps. He would have needed them at the end. We did the last four sections in the dark. Michael
ReplyDeleteApart form the mud over the engine and between the sump/chassis guard where the"tranmission" tunnel is. A Hardy Spicer joint broke. We are going to do the Exmoor this weekend. My first time passengering for him so it will be interesting to see the difference between the Escort and Imp. Mark
