There are always Dutton Phaetons on E-Bay, but this one caught my eye is it is an uncompleted kit and therefore raring to be built from scratch as a Class 7 car.
Having spotted this posting, I thought I'd better sign up at last as I've been lurking for several years now. The Dutton in question is mine - I bought it a couple of years ago with exactly that idea - build a Class 7. Except work and time march on and I've done nothing to it. I have helped my mate John with his Dutton though and drove it on the recent Northern Trial - the bright yellow thingie - and to paraphrase an ad, I liked it so much, I bought it . . . What you can't see in the ad picture is the other one, also not finished, but built up further, is the green one in the garage . . . and I've done nothing to that one either - although I think it donated a few items to the yellow thingie. As for SVA - I've got a Stratos replica and a Caterham (easy!) through - I found Manchester very helpful. I think the radii on most bits of a Dutton are so large there will be no problem - what might be required is to leave the screen off tho' - and re-jig the boot lid hinges (they are simple house door hinges). Otherwise common sense and a idea of how a car should be safely put together should see it through. Brian Colman
how difficult is it to get a Dutton through the SVA? for example, are all the curved bit s the right diameter?
