Scrappy racers

Don't know if yesterday's episode was a repeat but it featured the usual motley sort of crews attempting to build what was basically a classic trials car...great to see trials on telly even if they did call it a 'hillclimb'.  Slightly disappointing to see the 'expert' commentator was a sporting trials guy and not one of our sports' characters...

Looked a fantastic section too.  Was it from the Ilkley or was it a 4wd hill?  If the Ilkley had 15 hills like that in similar condition I reckon there'd be a lot more making the trek up north.

  1. yes that section was on last years ilkley trial and it was a bit more rutted than you saw in the film as for the rest of the trial its a great day out entry is £25

  2. I only viewed the end of the programme and did not see the "sporting trials guy" in question However I understand it was Julian Fack. The hill however I did recognise and has been used on at least the last two Ilkley Trials.  Its a super event and thoroughly recomnended. Refering to the Trial not the TV programme of course. Regards Dudley

  3. I thought it was one of the Facks.  I did the event in 2004 and I think we bumped into Dudley and Barry at the curiosuly named Woodall Services or some such on the M1 on the way up.  But I can't recall any hill that looked quite like that...maybe it was just a lot drier when we did it...I do remember that we got complimentary (?) meat pies, chips, mushy peas & puds at the finish, however, and if that isn't a good recommendation to do a trial I don't know what is!

  4. Hi/   In response to the rec' for the scrappy racers programme, does anyone know if and when it will be repeated? (I'm normally bemoaning the repeats of course, but on this occasion would like the opportunity of seeing it second time around!)   Do tell you TV addicts. (TV addicts as in television addicts, not the other type).   Nigel

  5. This was the second run of the prog, (in the Border tv land anyway they op in and out of ITV with in furiating irregularity).   Anyway as the section appears to be on the ilkley, which maybe my first event I think I may require a further hike in the ground clearance !   I've just recieved a copy of the Northern Trial DVD and only managed to view a few mins. of the excelent footage, And  if this amount of mud is the norm? the ground clearance will definately have to be increased.   The "chap in the Cap" was indeed Julian Fack and a nicer gent you could not wish to meet. I suspect the Tv Producers merely wanted some "strange looking " buggy with which to confuse and bemuse the viewers. Julians Facsimile is indeed strange breed as it is the only left hand drive of my ken in sporting trials.
