Reliant Tempest on EBay
Looks very much like Jack Williams very successful Trials Car http://classicalgas.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!9D45C19A8B93429F!2391.entry
Reading thru the Ebay stuff it says it has a Fox back axle. Although this is what was specified with the Tempest I am pretty sure Jack ran with an A series axle. I had the pleasure of driving this car once. Talk about torque, it would pull away from almost zero revs on a hill.
Seller is probably Dave Smith.

MARCH HARE 2008
Just a brief message to anyone thinking of entering this years event - entries close this coming Saturday, so don't delay
To date there are 40 confirmed entries with a maximum of 50.
It seems to me the event needs a few more saloons, so come on all you tintop owners where's your entry?

Golf TyresVW
Can anyone recommend a good tyre for a mate of mine to fit to the front of his Mk1 Golf? He's done 2 MCC Class O events but is struggling with tyres at the moment but is very keen to do more trials and to try and develop his car, he's entered the Lands End in Class O as well.

Tyre Size Recomendations
In my shed I have a set of 16 inch wheels whereas on my Tornado Typhoon I have 17 inch wheels fitted with Avon Tourist 4.50x17.
I need to replace the tyres and am considering which size wheel to use and whether to stay cross ply or go to radial.
I have been advised that a 165 radial will go on the 16 inch wheel and it has been suggested that I consider Coker 5.50R16 tyres.
I am not too worried about the gearing as all the tyres I am considering are in the diameter range of 25.98 - 27.17 inch (660mm-690mm) and if I have used my calculator correctly it only means a difference of circa 3 mph in top gear @4000 rpm.
Howver speed rating is important as the 17 inch affordable crossplys seem to have a max speed of 75 mph wheras the radial will allow a higher speed than that.

I will only be using the car 'on the road' so a true raod pattern tyre is required.
Any suggestions?
PS If anyone has some tyres for sale please let me know

Northern Trial
In a word - fantastic.
As in: fantastic weather, fantastic scenery, fantastic sections, fantastic marshals, fantastic navigator. Fantastic. And the sausage, chips, two eggs and peas has to be the best I've had anywhere, ever. Fantastic.
No idea where we came, or how we compared to the rest of the class - but who cares with weather and secnery like that.
And very nice chatty locals (we had occasion to speak with them a time or two . . . see below ;-) )
Fantastic!

(okay - I lied about the navigator . . . but an excellent tow car driver ;-) )

Short Restart Boxes
Interesting piece about restarts in the latest NOTW. In particular that you are allowed to "straddle" a short restart box. Mike Hayward and I marshaled Priors Holt 3 on last years Clee. This has short restart boxes and we were specifically told to fail any car that straddled.
Our fellow marshal (who's name escapes me but I know he's a member here) told us that he had marshaled on Felons Oak, which also has a short restart box, and was instructed to fail straddlers.
Personally I am not concerned if straddling is allowed or not. the main thing is that any rule is consistently applied.

Cotswold Clouds
Hi everyone,
Another great day out on Sunday, met many of you at the start, I then covered Nailsworth in the morning, and Bulls Bank in the afternoon, until it got dark. I would have like to go to the finish, but couldn't find my sat nav, and didn't have a clue where I was. I found it eventually, I'd put it in a camera bag!
Anyway, I was very pleased with the way the photos turned out, particularly the Ladder, where a number of cars were spectacular.
As usual they are on Smugmug here
I took literally hundreds of photos so if you are not on Smugmug, and want a to see if I've got one of your car send me an e'mail and I'll see what I can do.

Volkswagen only - Sahara trip
I heard about a trip that some of the class 4 Beetle drivers may be interested in, from the UK across Europe to Greece, ship to the southern coast of the Mediterrainian, head west towards Morrocco, then up from Spain to home. Check up on www.globalvolks.com
I hear that it is not just campers, Beetles have applied too.
Unfortunately my turbo diesel Toyota with air-con is not eligible but I've sort of been offered a VW splitty pick-up on loan, I'm tempted.
Run next Easter-ish, it could clash with the Land's End though.

Tyre choice
As my project continues, I now need to get some tyres suitable for the task ahead!
Having acquired a set of 14 x 5.5 rims, what does the panel reccommend as a good all round (pun intended) tyre within a reasonable budget, and within regs?
Thanks
Richard N
