Golf TyresVW

Can anyone recommend a good tyre for a mate of mine to fit to the front of his Mk1 Golf? He's done 2 MCC Class O events but is struggling with tyres at the moment but is very keen to do more trials and to try and develop his car, he's entered the Lands End in Class O as well.

  1. Firestone F580 has been approved for use recently and should be available in Golf sizes.  Tread looks good at the sides.

  2. There has been  a tremendous amount of discussion on the British Rally Forum concerning the use of these Firestones. As a sometime competitor in an Enduro spec rally car we had to use Colway Road Rally plus but of course the demise of Colway has affected this situation. We now have to use tyres from list 1a and the majority have gone for the Firestones 580C as they have stronger sidewalls. On the recent Great Bustard Rally they seem to have perfoirmed quite well.

  3. For the unitiated the 580c is the van version of the 580.  It has a 6ply sidewall so is stiffer and should be more puncture resistant.  Same tread pattern as the ordinary 580 as far as can be seen.  Both should be OK for approved tyre list.
