I agree it looks like Simms Pete. KOP 263 is a Mk1 Dellow. According to the Dellow Register it left the works on 24 August 1950. It was delivered to Hanger Motors in Birmingham who sold it to an unkown owner. The car is known to the Dellow Register. It is still original but is off the road. Michael
KOP263 was Doc Hardmans Daily Express Rally car. He won the rally outright in 1952. In those halcyon days, the rally was organised by the MCC. Ron Lowe once said Doc was the maddest driver he had ever known! The car was at the Dellow Register gathering at Shelsley Walsh in 2006 and 2007 in largely very original condition and we hope to see it again at Shelsley this year. In 2005, Doc Hardman's son Jeff contacted the register trying to find the photo albums which Molly (Docs' wife) had loaned to two enthusiasts who were going to write a history. They were never returned! Molly has since died at the grand age of 100. The Dellow Register has been trying to find these photos without success. If you have any clues, let me know in confidence. The Register would like to help the Hardman family regain their photos. Incidentally I don't think this is one of their collection. The Register Summer gathering at Shelsley is on 19th and 20th July this year and you don't have to belong to the Register to attend but you will have to pay the gate entry cost to the MAC David Haley, Secretary, Dellow Register
For the record, the hill is Simms, the trial is the 1955 Exeter and I am almost certain the driver is Doc Hardman with Molly his wife as passenger, Dave Haley.

ReplyDeleteGlad to see that davewhaley bought the Simms photo. David, do we have any other clues to the identity of these two 'enthusiasts' - and when was it ?
