Fuel tank guard for a Marlin

Judging by the dings in the fuel tank of  the newly built Marlin a guard is needed.
Mounting the guard on the back bumper looks OK, but where to mount it at the front? The shock absorber mounts don't look strong enough. Should I drop the tank and weld some brackets onto the chassis?
Can anyone offer me advice as to the best way of going about it? It would be much appreciated

  1. Throw away the old tank and have a new one made (by Steve Holder or others) which (a) is made out of really thick steel sheet, and (b) fills the complete rear frame so you don't have to worry about infilling around the tank. It will also add a significant amount of weight where you need it, give you increased capacity, and allow for much easier sealing between the tank/ frame/ and bodywork. I made the change years ago and it works a treat. The "new" tank has a couple of enormous dents in it [Pete Hart may remember where we got one of them, and it wasn't on a section. ;-). ] but it is still totally fueltight. I may be able to find some pics of the work in progress, but don't hold your breath.   Andrew

  2. Good advice Andrew, but Steve Holder wants 짙500 for a new tank and he can't do it until mid January, whereas the local commercial coach builder reckons he can do a guard for 짙150 and he can do it tomorrow. He's done work for me before and is good, I'll report back
