Mainstream Media

Simms has made the Daily Mail http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2084055/Spectators-watch-horror-classic-race-car-flips-wet-muddy-track-leaving-driver-trapped.html

The pictures seem to have come from John Baker http://www.jfbclick.com/ Don't think he is involved in the sport. I wonder how much he got paid?

  2. I suppose in this age of universal Digital cameras there is little the MCC could have done to get ahead of the story, and manage the inevitable publicity a bit better. I don't think 15 Mins from accident for a Paramedic to arrive and 20 minutes for the Air ambulance is bad, but I wasn't under the car. The doctor on scene seemed very professional, and the Marshals were on the ball.

By the way they are great photos!

    Glad that injuries are minor.

  3. I think there was a Doctor on the scene in minutes Dave as there was one passengering in a car a couple back in the Queue. He stayed until the ambulance left. Sat on the same table as him in the evening.

  4. I met John at the top of Bluehills last year when I was taking some photographs. He seemed a very nice guy and very interested in the sport. As he is a professional photographer it's not surprising that he would take the opportunity to sell the photos even if we would think it detrimental to the sport.
However, I wonder how damaging it will actually be. Although not for good reasons, it has got a lot of publicity for trials and may just encourage a few potential newcomers to look a bit deeper into what's involved.
I suspect any fall-out from the accident itself won't be affected by an on-line news article in the daily mail. To echo sentiment elsewhere, lets hope Alan and navigator make a speedy recovery and come out to play again in the near future.

  5. The story, copied from the Daily Mail, also appeared in the Nigeria Daily News
    Yes, really!!!!!

I think the most likely fall out will be in the area of insurance - it may be even harder to get "own" insurance for the event if the broker remembers the story.

  6. I thought the insurance was only for the road sections? Unless your speaking for the clubs.

  7. The section in question is a public road.

  8. Sorry i got confused. i thought the insurance was just driving in between the sections and the mcc had insurance for the event like if you hit a marshal or spectater. My bad.

  9. My concern here is that if it was a public highway, then surely seat belts should have been worn. I cant say for the car that rolled over but there is quite clearly people not wearing them going up simms on youtube videos. If the injured party wasnt wearing them then maybe this would have helped. I know that they can be a hinderance for bouncers but the law is the law. And it may have helped in the terms of saftey.

  10. Yeah they should be worn but with excitement its easy to forget. And some older cars dont have them.

  11. REIS Insurance covers you only for the blacktop. Once you're off that - on a section or its approach, then the MSA Permit insurance kicks in. But that doesn't stop insurers hiking up the risk involved, based a greater understanding on the type of vehicle being used an modifications done to them.
