Dunkirk 'Little Ship' Basil de Mattos

I have posted a photo on the album of a vessel that is one of the Dunkirk 'little ships'. I am sure that I have read an account that links the late Basil de Mattos MCC President from 1978 to 1991 with this vessel the 'Southern Queen', can anyone throw any further light on this.

  1. I thought I should mention that the 'Southern Queen' did go to Dunkirk and was commanded by Basil de Mattos MCC president from 1978 to 1991. He made three trips to Dunkirk and whilst there made many trips from the harbour to the larger vessels ferrying mainly French troops towards the end about 70 at a time. This I learnt from the present owner who took it from Penzance to Dover on Thursday some 300 miles. The boat can be seen at Dunkirk , it is now painted a cream colour with a green banding around the sides, the boat has no cabin and is open save for a raised fordeck with a split windscreen and steering wheel up forward. The owner was delighted that someone knew of the person who had taken it over in 1940. John Aley will be providing Phil Hammond the owner with plenty of info on the other side to Basil's life.
