I was due to passenger on this event. However, my driver Mike Hayward, got home from the Guy Fawkes PCT to get a message that Stroud have had to call it off because of all the bad weather. Apparantly the idea is to postpone the event until May next year.

Sorry folks - but the weather defeated us. Provisional date is 11th/12th May 2001. More news soon. Andrew.
ReplyDeleteThis is the text of the letter which has been sent, today, to all entrants: It is with deep regret that we confirm that we have decided to cancel the Anniversary Trial. As you can imagine, this is not a decision that has been taken lightly but the extreme weather of the last two weeks has, in the end, defeated us. An inspection on Saturday 4th November showed that at least two sections were already totally unusable and a significant part of the route was impassable – over five feet of water in a ford that normally runs at 6” deep for example. We considered extensive re-routing and running fewer sections but in the end we had to ask ourselves “Would this be the trial that we’d planned and you were expecting?” to which the only answer was “No”. And with more rain forecast in the week before the trial we felt we had no option but to cancel. We are therefore returning your entry fee (and Bowring fee where applicable) cheque uncashed. However, with a brand-new Trial ‘ready-to-run’ there’s no way that nearly two years of planning is going to waste so we’re already planning to run an event (to an identical format and using substantially the same route) in the late Spring of next year, probably on Friday 11th/Saturday 12th of May 2001. Please put the date in your diary. We’ll keep you in touch with developments via Restart magazine and your Club ACTC delegate. Please accept the heart-felt apologies of the organising team – we were looking forward to this event as much as you were – and please come back in the Spring of next year to sample the trialling delights that we have to offer. Andrew Brown - Secretary of the Meeting.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the hieroglyphics in the above - something to do with copy/pasting from 'Word'! Andrew
