Big problems with out F reg Nova 1.3 SR which I use for PCT's and Autotests and is the wife's shopping car.
It won't start when hot and has been left a while.
I have changed the leads which looked a bit dodgy and removed and cleaned out the carb. Once it's going it goes well - full bore and tick-over.
Any idea's?
Michael
Hi Michael, it sounds like a heat-soak problem (evapouration of petrol in carb bowl, fuel pump or fuel line ). Is there a heat deflector missing (can be either a metal plate or asbestos type sheet) ? You can check if evapouration is the problem easily IF you have a manual choke, --- just pull it out when the problem shows. "Tweetie-Pie" suffers in the same way, but it's because there is a lot of heat with nowhere to go, (ie I have to cut some vents in the bonnet, obviously this shouldn' be necessary with your Nova as it has been OK previously. Other alternative could be if your carb has a solenoid operated fuel cut-off which is playing up, but that wouldn't normally show ONLY when hot. Good luck, SimonR
ReplyDeleteWe have a similar problem with Andrew's 950 Fiesta which has a single choke Dellorto replacement for the original Ford carb. In this case though it seems more like its flooding when hot and its been suggested that fuel pressure might be the problem. I've fitted a Viton tipped needle valve and a Filter King to smooth the pulsing from the mechanical pump. Havn't tested it yet as I'm waiting for the cylinder head to come back from having hardened exhaust seats fitted (we got away with running on unleaded for 25000 miles but now the exhaust seats have a pronounced lip where they've recessed into the head...). Will keep you posted ..... Stuart
