Edinburgh Trial 2004

Posted on behalf of Ian Bates (Clerk of the Course):

We have had to do a lot more PR work this year as a result of which all competitors should take note of the following:

"Unless required by law, crash helmets are banned and any competitor seen wearing a crash helmet will be instantly excluded. If you have worn a crash helmet for weather protection in the past, please find an alternative."

(This applies to all car classes although directly primarily at the very small number of entrants who have chosen to wear crash helmets in open cars in the past.)

More marshals are still needed and, unless some are found soon, we may have to cancel one or more sections. Offers of help to Les Bowler on 01780 410200.

  1. Interestingly, many of the lay public drivers think that if one drives a skimpy open (trials) car one is required to wear a crash helmet by law! When driving my Cannon in the past, I have had people come up to me saying they thought it was law....I struggled to comprehend their ignorance! I still find that "lay" drivers , as I call them, have a very peculier idea of what constitutes "safety!"   Whilst I appreciate the benefits of keeping one's ears warm with a hard hat, I am amazed that competitors who, one assumes, are a little bit more "switched on" to driving and the law, etc, perpetuate this practice which can  only confirm to an ignorant watcher, what they have suspected all along, that we are a bunch of noisy speed freaks! And it is the ignorant watcher that can have such a detrimental effect on our sport in the future!
