Front wheel drive in Class 3

I see that in the regs for the Exe Valley trial the Crash Box and Classic Car club have included in class 3 "..front wheel drive production cars fitted as standard with torque biasing or limited slip differentials or any device which is designed to achieve the same result (except vehicles in class 6)".
I wonder, have they a particular vehicle in mind or are they just trying to wind up the current class 3 regulars?

  1. What the CB&CCC have done is to take their class descriptions from the MCC SSR's rather than the ACTC ones.   The MCC have had this clause in for some years now, which just show how much these documents are read, and is included on the basis that the MCC believes that there should be a home for modern production FWD cars fitted with traction control as standard.     So if you want to trial your nice new Mk5 Golf, you can.

  2. so, Simon, does a prosthetic right leg get classed as "traction control??"     also, if I replace a Ford Pop's rear axle (103E upright) with one from a Suzuki van, then can I still  run in  class 3? (hitherto not-often-read rule allowing pre '55 cars to change BACKAXLE (not just casing)..as long as I keep the original suspension layout substantialy the same?   Or could something similar be done with, say, a Minor or Standard eight?   just  proddin'!

  3. Fair point Simon, the oldest set of MCC ssrs' I can find is from 1998 and the clause is there for all to see. I hadn't realised that the MCC class 3 was different to that in the 'blue book' M6.1.
My only excuse is that I don't compete in class3, which is not an excuse the Escort driver who brought this to my attention can use!
