Hardy Trial cancelled!

I've just spotted this on the ACTC website at http://www.actc.org.uk/news.htm

What a shame, but I know just how the organisers must feel.

  1. One very disappointed competitor who throws his hat into the championship arena, who can not understand why the loss of Hell Lane and Green Lane should cause the cancelation of the championship event. Last year Hell Lane was cancelled and the previous year Green Lane and the event still managed a good days sport, and with Windwhistle motor club managing to hold a single venue trial in Bovey Woods with six hills in the forrest and the Hardy using the same woods. Why? are we not holding an event.
With only ten events in the championship callender now cut to nine, that spell the end of several competitors chances of winning the Crackington Cup in 2004.
One not happy class 1 competitor on his way to Simms to help repair before that hill is taken away from me.

  2. Lets hope this is a temporary glitch for the organisers of the Hardy. It would be a shame to see this event fall by the wayside. I hope I'm worrying unduly, but I did notice a change in the organising team for this year, so hope it is simply the loss of a couple of sections and nothing more. It does seem surprising if it is just two hills that have been lost, but maybe there are more that have been affected and its just Hell Lane and Green Lane have been mentioned as they are traditionally tough hills.   I sympathise with Davids points. I can imagine how frustrating it is to have entered this years championship, and for it to potentially have been affected by the loss of an event like this.

  3. Isn't it better especialy from a PR point of view to not run a trial at all costs? When (I meant if...) the finger pointing start the organisers of this trial and other organiser can point out that we actually care and we are not "at all costs".   As for the championship while I do understand Dave's point (and it maybe something for the ACTC committee to consider allowing an extra drop score or isn't there a 10 from 13 reducing down rule?) surely this is the flip side of organisers prerogative. Triples have been gained because of the disliked two up rule in 03 when Dave failed Waterloo and Adrian T-P got up (they swapped round for Simms) and this year the Exeter C of C chose to remove the point of the A-boards at Simms and the results show Alan Moody cleared the hill. This means that Dave finds himself in the usual position of being on for a Triple Triple in 05 having actually failed a section in both the previous years which others in his class cleared!   Did both of the quirks above alter the direction of the much sort after team award?   Not that this takes anything at all away from what has been a fantastic achievement in a very competitive class and something to be very proud of. A good story down the pub too as I would have thought it will be achieved by nobody else.   Sometimes things are meant to be other times they are not.   Litton on this year Edinburgh is a classic example. The hill was impossible in the rain and just after which mean needed a big pot of luck with the weather and also a bl**dy good climb to stand a chance. In some classes nobody succeded so the old hill didn't count so fate gave them a hand if you like and others had heros who made it count when others couldn't get to the start line!   Giles - I would still be sulking!   Mark

  4. Looking the news of the Week from John Aley the real reason is lack of marshals.

  5. Many thanks Mark for pointing out how I should have not been awarded the two Triples and team awards. I will convey your comments to the rest of my team members and the other 2 Triple award recipient who were thirlled to gain there first Triples in class 1.
A close look at the Baddley winner this year, I see failled to complete 2 special test and failed to climb all the hills, another competitor in by the back door.
Whilst you are keeping an eye on my results please check back on the other 4 Triples and the Badley to see if I have a problem with any of them.

PS, the repairs at Simms went very well and even managed to carry out some work on Tillerton keeping the hills open for all classes.

  7. It's a shame they didnt put anything on this site - my car wasnt going to be ready (depite having an entry) and I would have marshalled and could have got at least three others to come along as well. Dont understand why they said it was damage to the hills and then say it was due to lack of marshalls? Again, lets hope this is a one-off, and that we get the event back next year.

  8. It all sounds a bit strange to me but I fully respect the team for not running the trial. For what ever reason!I would be more disapointed to travel 200 miles each way for something not up to scratch.I would just like to add that over here in Ely the only reason i know the Hardy is canceled is through this website. Nobody has contacted me by any means to let me know.Have tried to enter the Allen as result of this only to become first reserve

  9. Simon, I've had a letter from the organisers and my cheque has been returned. If you don't get something similar I suggest you call Mervyn Brake.   The letter has pretty much the same as the wording as on the ACTC website statement of 8th November.  It refers to the 'recent heavy rain and high winds damaging the more testing sections'.  The passenger I had booked for the Hardy has a holiday home in Bridport and is planning to have a look at Hell Lane when he is down there in a fortnight's time.   I think there are several people in a similar situation to yourself re the Allen.
