Ilkley Trial

For all those nutters coming up to join us in Gods county tomorrow, in-case you are interested, it has chucked it down for over a week.  Even the bit of my garden at the top of the hill is water logged.  Sun is out now and the wind is blowing, so conditions should be fun tomorrow.

This is yeller Dutton home turf - and after a frantic engine removal, replacement rebuild and insertion after a slight con-rod /engine block interface problem at a club night trial on wednesday this week, it's new driver had best do it justice.

Excuse number one is we have no idea of the cam in this engine - but it does seem to get up and go from 3250rpm.  The 950 carb then reins that in at about 3500rpm . . . ;-)

Looking forward to navigating for the first time since this trial last year - means I can offer all sorts of sage advice from the safety of the passenger seat . . hee hee!

See you all there!

  1. Mr Bricol's relaxing time in the passenger seat of the yeller Dutton will give hin time to appreciate a master at work. I bought the car four years ago and, with a lot of help from good old Bricol, got it sorted for classics. I then found a sporting trials car and as I have not got room for both, sold the yeller Dutton to him. Just occasionally I am allowed to revisit it's right hand seat and the Ilkley is one of those times. Refinements have kept on coming over the last couple of years in his possession and I've got my fingers crossed that I don't disgrace myself. The forecast is for no more rain but no more wind either, and warm. Hopefully the streams will have subsided overnight but it's gonna be muddy, folks.   See you in Ilkley, if not, why not?   Mr Rhodes, Sir.

  2. Our first outing in the Ilkley Trial, and what a grand day it was.
Breathtaking countryside, friendly people and gosh, they even arranged nice
weather for us. (Where was this mud?) Mother and son Walton (Arthur riding
this time) had a lot of fun with the Honda/WASP, made some mistakes, but
still on good terms! Highly recommended for anyone wanting a rather special
    day out.

  3. Had a wonderful day in God's wonderful county, a tremendous welcome from all involved and beautiful scenery and good weather.  These are the first stabs at Pictures   http://hoits.smugmug.com/gallery/2889352/1/155315349 http://hoits.smugmug.com/gallery/2889372/1/155316364 are two galleries of Photos at Dob Park Watersplash.  This is a classic Ilkley photo opportunity and I hope my photos show why.   http://hoits.smugmug.com/gallery/2889388/1/155317906 http://hoits.smugmug.com/gallery/2889396/1/155319274 are two galleries at Hey Slack, the Lunch stop.  If you like spectacular the second of these galleries is the one to view.   http://hoits.smugmug.com/gallery/2884443/1/154955072 http://hoits.smugmug.com/gallery/2884473/1/154956108 are two galleries at Watergates a lovely section starting with a Stream crossing and the climbing up a winding track.   In each case the first gallery is classes 1 to 6 and the second is Classes 7 & 8.   Photographs of the motobikes and the start and finish and titles for the photos will follow shortly.   As usual I welcome any comments, and if you want hi-res copies of any files just let me know.   On a sader note I was upset to read about James Diffey, although I never knew him I do remember the fantastic performance of the Bugatti in Derbyshire,  a very competent hill climber.   Dave Cook

  4. Echo sentiments of Steve, Celia and Dave. Has a great time (made a mini-holiday of it) drove well until the hill at the lunch halt where I made a p***t of myself and went downhill after then. Report at www.classictrials.co.uk tomorrow with luck.   Only disapointment after travelling all that way was not to meet God. Was he behind all that security at Mentwith Hill Station?   Michael

  6. Hi Michael,

Whaddaya mean you didn't meet God, (in trialling
terms, anyway), I remember shaking your hand.

Regards to all my subjects, do pop round again next
    year, won't you all?

  7. Rest of the photos are now available   http://hoits.smugmug.com/gallery/2894180/1/155637913   Cars at the Start and Finish   http://hoits.smugmug.com/gallery/2894142/1/155635333   Bikes in the morning at start, Dob Park and Hey Slack   http://hoits.smugmug.com/gallery/2894170/1/155637305   Bikes at Watergate   All I've got to do is to add captions to 230 photographs.   Please remember that these are very low quality photos for quick uploading.  If you want anything better, please let me know.   Dave Cook

  8. The present edition of Complete Kit Car has a 2/3
page article introducing trialling to the masses.

It is to be a regular feature, the next article
what I wrote mentions the Kyrle and the Ilkley and is further
enhanced with photos of a world famous trialling duo, Brian and
    me.

    Regards to all,

    Rhodesey of the yeller
    Dutton.

  9. Hi all,   Just to say thanks to all the club members and all the others who helped  to make the Ilkley trial such an excellent event. You even got the day for the sun right! It was nice to have a short trip over t'hill an back again.   Please try your best to keep the "Incline" sections for next year!!  (this is the first time in three years I have ever seen top of the Quarry, fantasic views and a section in its own right just to get out of.)   Thanks for the pictures Dave.     Cheers Steve     Number 53  Red Liege

  11. Thanks Michael,   It would be nice to have Simon and a few more, on both Northern events. I feel like an orphan Liege up here.   However the competitors in class seven that I trial with are a grand bunch and I have made many new trials friends.   PS  Well done to Becci Lack on passing her driving test.  Are you doing the Edinburgh in Class O in your mums new car?  Could your dad be getting you a special? in at the deep end class 8?   It would be nice to see three generation's of one family all trialing at the same event! Would this be a first?   Cheers Steve

  12. Celia,    As an experiment I have loaded all the photos from SMUGMUG onto a UK website called Photobox which provides a service to print photos.  I've used them before and the quality seems OK.   The address is   http://www.photoboxgallery.com/ClassicTrials   and there are 5 Galleries, Watergate: Start/Finish; Dob Park; Hey Slack and Bikes, I think the names are self explanetary.  There is one other gallery called Requested Photos, where I have some extra photos of your combo.   As this is an experiment if anyone wants to use this service I would appreciate some feedback, are the Photos OK? were they easy to order, did they arrive quickly is the price about right, and any other comments.   They do charge 짙2:00 package and postage.   I hope you find this useful, but if you still want to receive  Hi-res images I'm still happy to supply them.   Dave Cook
