I hope you can help me. I’m thinking of buying a Marlin and Jonathan Toulmin has been very helpful, but it would be good to speak to someone else. Can you assist?
Many thanks
Best regards
Richard Houlgate
I replied but more info and perhaps personal contact would help.
Hello Richard,
Yes we know more about Marlins than anything else!
First check out the Marlin pages on Andrew Browns site. http://www.knightlybrown.net/sectionbegins/index.htm and

Also I will post a message on the Classical gas Board for you at http://groups.msn.com/ClassicalGasForTrialsenthusiasts/home.htm
Check this out, why not join?

I'd like to speak to a couple of Marlin owners to get more of an idea about the car. I've trialed an Austin 7 for about 10 years, competing mainly in VSCC trials and the Clee Hill. I'm looking for something a bit more robust so I can do more ACTC and MCC trials, hence the idea of the Marlin. I'm reluctant to put my phone number on an open forum, but if you could email me your phone number to richard@houlgate.co.uk I'll call you back. Thanks I look forward to hearing from you. ReplyDeleteA car is on its way, but I need some tyres. What do people recommend? Are Colways still available?
ReplyDeleteHi Richard. I am largely in the same boat. I have purchased a SWB Roadster (M) that has never been completed! Am in the process of building it for the purpose of trials. I have been digging for information and have amassed a fair bit, but certain parts are like chicken's dentures (Marinal Van 10cwt axles, front hubs, etc). Marlin Owners Club is useful. Brod

ReplyDeleteCheck out Andrew Browns stuff at http://www.knightlybrown.net/sectionbegins/ttopics/ttopics00.htm I would contact Steve Holder at Fortune Engineering who I believe is the man in the know. Link on Andrews page. Michael
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the best trials site on the internet Richard. If you drive your new Marlin just half as competitively as you do the Austin Seven -then I suspect you'll do rather well ! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteBy the way your phone number is already on the internet at I****d Alumni Association ...... 1984 has passed and it is hard to escape the net.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nigel, the Austin has gone rather well of late, but its difficult to know exactly why, experience with the car certainly helps. But it is rather fragile and I'm looking forward to a less labour intensive trialling experience with the Marlin (do I never learn?) I'm aiming for the Edinburgh trial to start the campaign, see you there?
ReplyDeleteRichard. You should enjoy the Edinburgh, certainly Litton Slack if it is wet. Sadly I won't be there but it is a saga best not aired on these pages. If Jim is not able to passenger you for any reason, dig out my phone number from the VSCC Members List. I'm only 15 miles from Shrewsbury. All the best.
