Fire Extinguishers

Anyone needing to buy a fire extinguisher to meet the current regulations, may be alarmed at the prices being asked in some places. However, S D Fire Alarms in Paignton (with whom I have no connection) will sell you a 2 litre AFFF Foam Spray stored pressure extinguisher, with bracket, for 짙32.78 which is including VAT AND delivery... Mine arrived by courier in 2 days. Here is a link:

  1. As somebody whose car has caught fire on the way to a section before, I would recommend that you buy and fit the biggest extinguisher that you can. My 2.25L AFFF was not sufficient to extinguish the flames and needed the help of another extinguisher to get the fire out. I now carry 2 extinguishers because one day there may be no one else around to help and then I would end up with no car.

  2. Stuart.  If you let me have your email address I will send you a couple more photos of your HRG on Crooked Mustard this year (brilliant climb by the way!) and one I took on the Mechanics Trial.   That is if Don Courtney has not already forwarded them to you?   Plus one of my HRG, S58  HLO163, that is about to come back from America. (I might have to change my ClassicalGas moniker from 'Allard V8'  to  'HRG Driver2'  !! .... and change my email address in the future )     npmbrown.allardATvirgin.net    [ replacing AT with the usual]

  3. As to fire extinguishers.   A couple of days ago I took the powder one I have carried in the Allard since the mid-Eighties and thought :- This is getting a bit ancient, will it still work? Recalling that the CO2 one I used to carry could be fired in controllable blasts I gave the trigger a squeeze to 'test' it.   WRONG MOVE ! !     Once set off it continued to 'run'..................... Ho hum, stupid me. Luckily I was outside the workshop .... and will now be forced to buy a new one.

  4. When the kids setfire to the bin up the road I tried out my c20 year old 750g powder extinguisher out to see if it worked. Remarkably it did the job OK.
