New Dellow Driver on the Hills?

Well, what a smart looking red Dellow outside its new home. I guess it must now belong to our Classical Gas leader, Michael. So lets welcome him to the joys of open air motoring, class 8 (I assume its not class 7) and all those restarts, deviations and extra hills. I am sure you will enjoy it all.
Hope to see a few 'Gassers' on the Clouds, Sunday, I think I am number 27. Usual passenger Chris Phillips will be marshaling on Bull Banks so watch those restarts!
I am off to China for 3 weeks on business so will catch up  with 'Gas' when I get back.

  1. I reckon Michael should change his entered vehicle on Sunday's "Clouds", and join us in the fresh air Stuart, what do you say ? Congrats to Michael, I 'm sure he is going to enjoy the car. Matt and I are entered on Sunday but are running at 74 so we'll probably only see you to wave goodbye at the start. All the best, SimonR

  2. I know we won't see the Dellow arriving at a trial on a trailer - but buying a flatbed truck to get to and from trials is a bit much isn't it Michael???

  3. Thanks guys. It's a Mk1 that left the factory in December 1950. It was fitted with a 1600 crossflow in the mid 80's by a chap called Ian Wilson who did a lot of trialling with it. He sold it to a gentleman in Yorkshire about 8 years ago who only did one event with it although he did use it for a bit of green lanning. It had to go to make way for an AH3000.   Although it goes and has an MOT etc there are quite a few little mechanical things to check and fix and the body might upset the MCC scrut's.There are a few other issues as well. I know nothing about Dellows, Fords or old cars and all my tools are Metric! Oh and I don't really fit in it!   The present plan is to take it to the Falcon PCT on 8th Feb and hopefully run it on The March Hare. I have no plans to sell my Beetle (sorry Jon) and will drive that on The Clouds and Lands End.   As Ian says I can hardly get a trailer after everything I have said! Oh and it's all Dudleys fault after my day passengering him on The Exmoor thats why I had to wait for a red one!   Michael

  4. As a very recent Dellow driver myself, welcome to the word of open motoring Mike.   It is good to see more and more old trials cars being used and not left in garages to rot away.   Hope to have a good look at it at the Falcon PCT (if i'm not busy repairing mine).   Peter

  6. Actually its the ex Peter Wilson car.  Those of you with longer memories will more likely remember Peter & His lady, Wendy, in their white Buggy.    He sold it to David Winstanley who used it for the very first Northern Trial.   From memory, the engine is standard 1600GT, the rear axle is Escort (as opposed to the narrower and more common 105E) and the rear wheels are Saab.  The conversion from side-valve was done by Peter's local agricutural engineer. Mike: if you want to know more detail of the car, I can give you Peter's phone number offline, he would certainly be pleased to hear that the car is back in the real trials fold.
