Photo's at Blue Hills

The West Briton, which is the major local newspaper in West Cornwall carried a centre spread report with pictures on this year's Lands End Trial.

Featured are George Cook and Tim Hustwayte on motorcycles and Bill Rosten, Geoff Hodges, Dave Turner, Dudley Sterry, Tony Westbrook, John Wilton, Barry Clarke and Simon Robson in cars.

The pictures were taken by local photographer Geoff Hichens and are his copywrite, but he will supply full colour copies at a very reasonable price.
He tells me he has quite a few of various cars and bikes, and he may have one of you !
To find out e-mail him on geoffphoto@btinternet.com with your number.

All the best,

Steering Box Adjustment

E93A Steering Box - Tornado Typhoon

After a long winters gestation I treated the car to a quick trip around the 'block' This is the first time I have driven it so not sure of what to expect but the steering frightened me! On a 13inch steering wheel I have 3 inches of play at the rim of the steering wheel before I see any movement at the road wheels. I have tried to adjust the box using the nut on top of the box itself but not much improvement. Spoke to Small Fords who suggested that I was lucky having this little amount of play! So how do I improve things? Who do you suggest I talk to about getting it rebuilt?

KYRLE TRIAL

Myself and fellow Minehead motor club  member Tim Hellings have just got back from marshalling and spectating on a very dry Kyrle trial. We marshalled the second section which was Goldsmiths 1 and witnessed some very cunning sections set out by Barty and his team, just before the restart on a straight piece of track the numbered markers changed from the right to the left meaning you had to drive up the flat verge on the left therefore keeping the markers on your right, and we were amazed to see about 50% or more of the field drop 10 marks by not noticing this and putting all 4 wheels out of the section. An absolutely cracking way of taking big points off of people on a relatively easy, dry section. We then watched at Jack and Jill witnessed an absolutely massive wheelie from ' Harvey(the nutter)Waters on Jack as he stood the pop on it's rear bumper at very nearly 90 degrees.I think passenger Dave Miller needs a medal (or a brain transplant). All in all we had a great day and took a few photos which I will try to post when I figure it out . I think more than a few will be puzzled by the 10 picked up on section 2 , but I suppose it was quite early in the morning !

Climbing a different sort of hill

I don't know if any of you will be interested, but I spent Easter Monday at Loton Park in Shropshire, watching and photographing the British, Leaders & Midland Championships Hill Climb.  The weather was beautiful, and the cars impressively fast.  Here are a few of the Photos I took.

Advice on E93A Engine timing

Having had the engine rebuilt several months ago I finally managed to get the thing started! I originally set the timing up with the pin 'slotted' into its slot on the front of the engine , adjusted the points using a bulb across the points but I noticed that the rotor arm pointed between No1 and No2 cylinders on the distributor. Of course the thing wouldn't start. I therefore moved the distributor anti clockwise until the rotor arm pointed to No 1 cylinder and success. Now that it runs how can I set the timing up properly? I am new to the sidevalve world and am used to nice timing marks so that I can use a strobe. All suggestions gratefully received.  Tony

How was your Lands End

I really enjoyed by Lands End (see my Blog http://classicalgas.spaces.live.com/blog/  and Photo Album http://classicalgas.spaces.live.com/photos/ ). OK it was dry and I got up Cutliffe Lane but it was still a challenge with all those "chicane type restarts" like the one at Daracott that stopped me. Talking of the restarts at Beggars Roost and Daracott where there were chicanes marked with tape. Would you be penalised for knocking the tape over?

We finished early and were able to have a nice relaxed afternoon and evening. How was your Lands End?

Lands End Live Reports

I'm driving this time so I won't be able to do the steady stream that I have done on some events. However, if there's time in queues, rest halts etc I will give it a go.

If you have helped out by texting me reports in the past the number has changed. The old one doesn't work and I won't get anything if you use that. Everything is now on one number, the one ending in 144. If you don't have that number and would like to participate with live reports on the Lands End drop me an email at mleete24@hotmail.com
