Dellow Watch
In last weeks 'Classic Car Weekly' a Dellow was advertised by Malcom Elder & Sons near Bicester. The actual wording is "1947 Dellow Early Austin chassied car, Ford engine £7,750". Might suit somebody who gets 8 draws on his coupon this weekend! The phone number is 01869 340999.

I should have added a web address for this, it is www.vintageandclassiccars.co.uk and a photo is on www.vintageandclassiccars.co.uk/47del.jpg the Reg. No. is CAC309 Steve
ReplyDeleteGot a feeling tha this car was sold but this Dellow may not be the real deal as to my knowledge no record of this car exists from the 1947-1950 period and I own an early prototype CAB 282 which is a fully verified car. We also have details of all the known protypes plus photo's My car also has a 1938 A 7 chassis and correct Dellow wings, screen , tank etc but CAC doesnt seem to have much if anything Dellow about it from my memory of the car My guess is that it was a pastiche of a Dellow probably built for fun in the 1950's/60's by someone who couldnt afford a Dellow OK its still a fun car tho a bit pricey as its provenance is uncertain and if you want to know more check out the dellow register onthe web Good luck folks Peter
ReplyDeleteI'm not in the market for a Dellow at the moment Peter, It is on the wish list though! I am rather hoping that when I'm out in brother Ed's Replica some one will say "I've got one of those in my granddads garage, do you want it:!!! Your advice should be heeded for any potential purchaser. It's provenance though should not be dismissed out of hand as with the fashion of 'cherished' number plates it could possibly have been re-registered. Perhaps someone in the area could check it out and report back to the register. You could then have not just a list of 'What is' but also a 'What's not' for future reference. Steve Nikel.
