No but the engine from your Triple Winning Beetle is still powering my Beetle. Been in there a long time and never re-built it. On Carbs now of course. Just checked I have had it since 1998 http://www.classictrials.co.uk/gas98102.htm
Do you remember who bought it? I have this vague memory of the person who bought it entering one event, discovering that he was NOT instantly on the pace despite having "the best car" and never reappearing. So it's probably still in his garage. Are you planning a come-back?
is there a picture of it any where ,there is i think a ex vowden car in mid cornwall ,blue in colour and poss fitted with a variant type engine ,last seen (by me approx 4 /5 years ago)
I suspect the Blue ex-Vowden car with the Type 3 engine is the spaceframe special they built and had great success with - pictured in Peter Noad's Book. Rob's ex-Vowden buggy was a GP type, with a type 4 engine and was white (?) from memory with centre mounted steering box. I also think the ex Bob Clough ex Dean Vowden buggy may have been one of three they built - the first being a 1776cc GP which narrowly lost the 1986 Wheelspin Championship to Richard Penhale in a similar machine. Might have got some of that wrong - eg the two GPs might have been the same machine - it was a long time ago!
It was a Gp buggy with a type 4 motor and it was painted in a white pearl effect .It had long travel front suspension with a 'quick' steering rack centre mounted. I sold it to somebody that Roger Ugalde knew. I think he was a farmer? in Devon?. I spoke to Roger some 10/15 years ago, and he said the owner only used it once and it was stored with him ever since.I've lost all contact details.

ReplyDeleteAdrian is thinking of the De-Art special, whereas Rob's buggy was a "traditional" body, readily identified by its pearl effect paint job
