Free Tickets for Renault World Series

I know it's a bit late but free tickets are available for the Renault World Series at Silverstone on 7/8th June.  Last year it was at Donnington Park and was a tremendous weekend, marred only by the horrendous traffic queues in and out of the circuit.
Apply for your tickets on www.renaultsport.com

Volkswagen only - Sahara trip

I heard about a trip that some of the class 4 Beetle drivers may be interested in, from the UK across Europe to Greece, ship to the southern coast of the Mediterrainian, head west towards Morrocco, then up from Spain to home. Check up on www.globalvolks.com

I hear that it is not just campers, Beetles have applied too.

Unfortunately my turbo diesel Toyota with air-con is not eligible but I've sort of been offered a VW splitty pick-up on loan, I'm tempted.

Run next Easter-ish, it could clash with the Land's End though.

MAXEY CLASSIC CAR SHOW

Here is my final reminder that the annual Maxey Classic Car Show takes place this Saturday, the 18th August, at Maxey which is situated just north of Peterborough.
Full details are on www.maxeycarshow.co.uk

Rumour has it that a certain bookseller, of high renown, will have an original copy of C.A.N. May's 'Wheelspin' and a copy of Peter Noad's 'VW Beetle in Motorsport' (see book reviews) available for discerning triallers.  Only one of each though!

Maxey Classic Car Show - August 18th 2007

At a loose end on Saturday 18th August?  Then polish up the motor and boogie on up north to Maxey (Just outside Peterborough) for Britains friendliest Classic Car Show.  Details can be found on http://www.maxeycarshow.co.uk . As far as I can remember they have never had any trials cars on display, surely it's about time that was remedied is'nt it? and any way, yours truly intends to have his secondhand book stall set up so the more that turn up the better!

classicford show

Just got back from santapod raceway brilliant show. I may be corrected but, I believe that I was probably the first trials car to go up the strip! Pulling what I feel was a respectable time of 17.024 and 76.41 mph over the 1/4 mile.  Also, there was a grass auto test where my poor Escort was triple (!) driven.  The inevitable happened and Paul Bartleman beat me by a whisper (IN MY CAR!) to win over all and was awarded for his success with a handshake by Tony Mason.  All said and done a grand day out Gromit!.

Maxey Classic Car Show - August 12th

For all those petrol heads out there in Trials Land, who may be planning their itinery for the coming months, now seems an ideal time to remind you of a very friendly Classic Car Show in an idylic lakeside location,  Maxey, which is a small village, to the north of Peterborough is holding it's 6th annual show.  Last year there were three Falcon members present, yours truly with his wares, brother Ed with his award winning Singer Chamois and Ted had his RAFA stall and that excellent Austin Ten raffle prize which I didn't win.  To date I have not seen a Trials Car at the show so you could be the first!

Allen Trial 2004

Allen Regs went in the post on Monday (2nd Class) and it appears that some people have already received them. Apologises about the confusion on the front cover. It should read
'Paul & Emma 2003 winners on this year's Northern Trial'
Regs should be on the Bristol Motor Club & ACTC sites soon.
I suggest you enter promptly as we have had lots of requests for regs or people saying they are going to be entering.

Atlas-Sahara 2004

Guild of Motor Endurance

Atlas-Sahara 2004

North African Sports Car Challenge

The year is 2004, the month is October, the country is Morocco.

Welcome to the Atlas-Sahara

The sands of time will be returning Guild of Motor Endurance competitors to the edge of the Sahara. Sportscar crews are invited to once again take on the spectacular Atlas and Rif mountains and to journey amongst the dunes and oasis of southern Morocco.

This eight day tour of Morocco will not only include the expected tortuous mountain routes synonymous with endurance, and the allowance such roads make on any schedule, it will also take competitors through the dramatic landscapes on the challenging route separating the Atlas mountains and the Sahara desert. Here, Arabian nights will be spent under the stars in Berber tents. Morocco is a land of extremes and full of bewildering experiences, the Atlas-Sahara will be taking in many of them. From the breathtaking altitude roads to the barren silence of the desert; the heat; dust; long shadows in the sand; palm trees and gorges. The vibrant colours and smells; spices, overloaded donkeys and camels, and it’s nomadic friendly people. Having mint tea with kilim sellers, dishes of couscous and tajine, negotiating in dirham for a silver hand of Fatima while looking for a passage control in a medieval medina. These together with the pace of endurance in a sportscar are the ingredients for a 2004 Tuareg expedition. If you own a sports car and need an adventure, reserve your entry: 5–12 October.

www.atlas-sahara.com

The eight day 2000 mile Atlas-Sahara route will be in the North African country of Morocco. The official start will be from the Port of Nador on the Northern coast of Morocco. Signing on, and the scrutineering of cars, will take place at the Port of Almeria in Southern Spain. Competitors and cars will then board the overnight ferry to Morocco.

From Nador the route crosses the Rif mountains to an overnight stop in the old Imperial Capital of Fes. From Fes day two will take competitors through the Moyen Atlas and over the Haut Atlas towards the Tafilalt, and the end of the road southwards. After a nights bivouac in Berber tents the route sweeps round to the west and into the Draa valley. Over the next days the Anti Atlas dominate the dramatic road west towards where the Sahara eventually meets the Atlantic. From the coast the route climbs again, this time via Tafraoute, followed by the sinuous route over the southern end of the Haut Atlas and Tizi-n-Test. Reaching Marrakech allows time to explore the lively Djemaa el-Fna Square and the medina. From the hotel in Marrakech the route heads north via Khenifra to the overnight stop in the old Moorish city of Meknes. The final day takes a detour via Roman Volubilis and the holy city of Moulay Idriss. From here only the road over the Rif separates competitors from the Finish, and the sea resort of Al Hoceima. The following day there is plenty of time to cover the short distance to the overnight ferry from Nador.

The route will be mostly asphalt. The regions being used will mean the trial route will include some unsurfaced sections of road (piste as used by ordinary road cars).

Targa-Liege

Posted on behalf of Peter Davis

Hello Michael, hope you are well.  I was wondering if it would be possible to include a mention the Targa-Liege 2002 on your Classical Gas community. The entry is mostly made up of kit cars, having a trials car take part would be wonderful.

Basically it's a five day reliability trial for hand built sports cars from Spa in Belgium to Florence, via Germany and the Austrian and Italian Alps and takes place on the 21st - 25th September 2002.  Latest details and entry attached.

Many thanks.

Peter Davis.

P.S. Look forward to seeing you in the bar in Newquay Saturday evening.
