Are these Scams?

There are a number of 'classified ads' appeared on Ebay today, all newly registered business accounts with (0) feedback.  They are all different user names with addresses in different parts of the country but all offering classic cars for around £1900 each. There's a 1933 Lagonda VDP tourer, 1928 supercharged Riley special, a 1962 Daimler Dart, a rather nice E type Jaguar coupe and several others.  Definitely a snip at these prices but somehow I smell a fish!!

What do you think???

  1. The saga continues today, new classified ads, new accounts with no feedback, fifferent locations and cheap cars a Mk 1 Mexico AVO for £1600, a rather nice looking 1914 Model T for £1900, a '66 Plymouth Fury at £1000 plus others.  These are not auction starting prices as a 'classified ad' on Ebay is a selling price.  I rather think a lot of people are going to get stung.   Caveat Emptor!!!   Steve Nikel

  2. Some of these adverts appear to have used photos from cars that have sold on ebay in the past ....at somewhat differant prices.I can not see how they work, and why ebay do not stop them.I fear it is so big now they are unable to police the entrys.

  3. Just for a giggle I have tried to buy the Escort Mexico and offered to pay cash on collection. This was refused and I have been instructed to send money to a paypal type of system and then the car will be delivered to me...........yeah right! I have asked ebay to investigate this so we will see what happens.

  4. I wonder how long it is going to take ebay to put a stop to these scam entrys? I see another has come on tonight.Same style as the others with a "come and get me price." Should read come and get ******* price..   I sold a car a few weeks ago and watched a dealer bid several times to find my Reserve price and then cancelled all the bids.I reported this action.Ebay did nothing !

  5. I have reported these myself to Ebay and have only had there standard reply.  I have also sent some info to Classic Car Weekly in the hope that they may investigate.   that aside I am currently awaiting delivery of my very own Dellow which should be arriving from New Mexico shortly - it has cost me $51.00! A scam? probably not as it is only 1/43 scale!!!   Steve

  8. My Dellow arrived from New Mexico last week.  I I now have a dilemna. Do I make it up and paint it?  I have no experience of white metal kits although I've made plenty of Airfix Kits (40 years ago!) or do I just keep it as it is as an appreciating Assett???     By the way 'MWL82' mine cost $51 plus $10 shipping. Which was about £25 + £5   Steve Nikel
