Lands End Results - A Boards on Cutliffe Lane

Perhaps I had never understood this before but it appears if you failed below the A Boards you were penalised twice. Once for not reaching the A Boards and a second time for not getting to the end. Is this the ways its always been and I haven't noticed it before?

  1. Should not be the case as far as I know. You can only fail a section once and it does not matter where. The A Boards on Cutliffe Lane were only there to mark the section end for the lower classes. It just happened that initially the information in which class a competitor was and if he had to get to the top or only the A Boards did not make it to the marking marshals, hence some competitors were marked as fail below or fail above A Boards or something like that. This might have caused some confusion later on.

    We tried our best though.

  2. My understanding was that the A line only came into use if nobody in any class failed to reach the Section End but some made it past the A board the the A board was then counted as the Section End for that class. It is not possible to fail a section twice surely? I must get out the Yellow Book and check.

  4. I thought the A boards were assessed on a per class basis? The A boards on Cutliffe were quite low and we got well past them but got a "fail to A Boards" which seems strange . Also had a DNS at Blue Hills 1. unclear about this as we did stop at the Sections Ends line and were not required to do the restart - still it it would have made no difference to results ! looking forward to the next event

  5. I wasn't a competitor, so don't have the benefit of the Provisional Results to review, but ... have you actually checked that you have failed "twice". The way in which MCC results are displayed will often show fails both above and below the A Boards because neither of the two marshals (the one at the A Boards and the one at Section Ends) will have recorded you as passing their position.

Those who've marshalled on MCC events will know that competitors are not recorded as Clean/Fail. Marshals only note which competitors have passed their position, and in what order. with an additional note if they spot a "stop". Competitors who fail below the A Boards will not be recorded by either marshal and will therefore be shown as "failing" twice in the results, although only one of these fails should count when calculating awards.

    Clear as Cutliffe mud?

  6. Hi Andrew - Yes have checked and if I have only failed once I get a bronze. One or two others in the same situation. Have been in touch with Gerry and based on past experience he will look at it and sort it out one way or another.

  7. Which is why the Provisonal Results are not posted on the MCC website until all the questions have been answered and they've become "Final".

  8. Gerry has acknowledged his error in laying out the Cutliffe Results for Class 4, and the finals will show just 1 fail for that section.
