My Lands End Trial

Just got home. Really enjoyed the trial. OK the sections were dry and therefore easier than usual but the Lands End is more than a trial, its an adventure where the first test is your own character. Night run was great. The regularity provides that extra bit of interest.

I thought the County Gate Control worked well. Much better place than the pub up the road. We got there a bit early and were there for 50 minutes but parking was under control. Keep it I say.

We hit some mist at times during the nearly hours but not to m uch of a problem. Being dry us Cannon Fodder actually got up Rodneys Revenge and Cutliffe Lane and we really enjoyed the exit tracks rather than the all familiar escape roads.

The club had its revenge on Bishops Wood where we failed the restart so with luck we may get a Silver. Doesn't matter if we don't. Had a great time.

Oh one last thing. How many trailer loads of that clay were dumped on Crackington? We reckon it was three. As an early number we could still see the distinct heaps! Did the job though. Well done chaps.

How was your Lands End Trial?

  2. County Gate Control was a different story when we got there towards the end of the trial - cars queued almost out onto the road waiting for the marshals to let one car out to provide parking for another all in the dark by torchlight doing a difficult job in the circumstances
Then there was what seemed like a 10 minute queue to get to the signing in desk and a similar one to sign out again the entry takers working under difficult conditions. So may be not next year!

We also failed Bishops path to - too much grip with low pressures meant I managed to get the clutch all the way in without the wheels turning - and that was supposed to be a heavy duty clutch - still got plans in mind for next time !

  3. The Control at County Gate was very much a last minute arrangement due to the Culborne Inn not being available. We had realised that the parking would not be adequate and may have had to resort to “on road” parking. The two car park marshals achieved the impossible continually fitting a quart into a pint pot. One of these guys was home upon sick leave from Afghanistan with a leg wound but did a great job using a direction torch.
The lack of room inside caused the queuing problem and the food supply was amazing consider the facilities and staff are geared to a few summer visitors

  4. Just got back from Cornwall, 6:30 pm on Monday. I went down with the caravan on Thursday, spent Friday researching sections, then went out at 5 pm Friday to cover the Plusha start, straight onto to Rodney's Revenenge, and from there back to Bishp's Path, back to the van by about 5;30 pm, so not too bad, spent Sunday morning taking backups of photos, and them went to a grass track meeting! Overall I covered abut 800 miles. All I've got to do now is to sort out the 2,200 photos.

  6. Great pictures Dave. The night time ones look good. I don't remember that tape on Rodneys Revenge though. The section looks more like Beggars Roost to me.

BTW - Haven't forgotten to respond to your email. Been a lot of catching up here, fixing cars and computers!
