Trials insurance

Hi. I'd appreciate some advice. Just renewed my insurance for another year on my X-90 and under the limitations it now states 'not to be used for any competition, trial, track day or performance test'. I guess this includes car trails. I'd be interested to hear how others get around this problem as my previous company asked me whether I used the car for trials and when I said yes, they refused to quote me.

many thanks

Kevin

  1. Hi Kevin,

I have used Competition Car Insurance from day 1 and never had any problems. They are fully aware of what Classic Trials are and cover you for them. The policy is mileage limited, but you decide the mileage, wish my main car policy was as cheap.

  2. Every event I have entered has had event insurance. My car is covered by a normal road policy for road use and travel to the start of the event. When I sign on I am then covered by the event insurance and once I finish I am covered by my road insurance again. Have listed all the mods on the Skoda to several different companies over the years and never had a problem. eCar clearly didn't have a clue what they were insuring, but insured it anyway but the renewal was astronomic so I did it with a local broker.

  3. Having used an X90 for a short time, I have to agree with your insurance company. It shouldn't be used for trialling!!

  4. Read Simon Says in the latest ACTC Restart magazine. Taking-out REIS/ Lockton event insurance is the easiest way to ensure that you're 100% covered, although I do believe that the Competition Car Insurance cover is comparable.

However, when I last investigated Competition Car Insurance (admittedly several years ago), their rates were ridiculously high. I could take out normal road (no competitions) limited mileage insurance with Adrian Flux (for kit cars), and then pay event insurance for the entire ACTC championship series, and the total cost was still cheaper than the CCI quote!

  5. Personally I always take out the event insurance offered by the organisers. That way I know there is on doubt I'm legal. - Michael

  6. I have an annual policy with REIS which is roughly £100 more than normal road policy. This covers normal road use and cover while competing in Classic Trials (ie the cover you would buy for each event). It also include any vehicle modifications related to Trials without having to list them all.

  7. Hi. Thanks to all who responded to this thread. A quick update. Chaucer have now clarified that my insurance WILL actually cover me for Trials use but just not on the trial itself which is not what it says on the limitation. No problem here as I always take out the MCC insurance anyway. I emailed a request for a quote to Competition Car Insurance and after a few days delay, they did come back with a very competitive quote of £190 including my partner to drive. I will definitely get a quote from them next year.

Can't wait for October and the Edinburgh!
