  1. When I was trialing a Skoda I used a standard friction plate but changed it annually (after 3 MCC trials) and had no trouble apart from a heat crazed flywheel surface, but my engine could not be used ton a hill at less than 3,000rpm.   It is easy to see when the clutch needs a change by the position of the operating lever on the top of the bellhousing.   I used to destroy diffs until I put good quality full synthetic gear oil in the transaxle and never broke a transmission again.

  2. Same with me in my car, but I did get an uprated cover plate (stronger springs) made up by Terry Ormerod at Helix clutches (near Banbury), which never gave any problems. Also agree with Peter re the use of good quality fully synthetic oil ( make sure you get the one for combined transaxle use NOT just a conventional rear axle, otherwise your synchromesh on your gears won't work). If you want to do more events than just the 3 MCC ones in a year, (ie the ACTC series ), without breaking the diff then the other thing to do is to strip the Diff and get the carrier casting tuftrided. This used to give us about 15 months of MCC / 8 x ACTC / 3 x club PCT's double entered / 4 club Autotests double entered AND Matt using it on the road before it would give up the ghost and need replacing. Speaking as someone who changed the Transaxle MANY times in the early years, I can highly recommend this mod. Good luck, SimonR
