  1. Hello Nick - Have you seen many trials? If you haven't I think thats where you start (Cotswold Clouds this w/e). Next thing is have a go at a PCT so you can get the feel of the car off road, how it responds to different tyre pressures, learn how to cope with the inevitable under-steer.   I would think that you could do Class 0 on the Lands End in a standard car but first things to do are:-   Underguarding - petrol tank, lines and cables as well as the sump. Try to raise the suspension a bit (you won't need to much on an Imp) Tyres with good "bite" on the edges. MX pattern one of the best but you have to accept what you can get these days. Fit tubes in at least the rear tyres. Carry two spare wheels and/or learn how to change the tube yourself. All wiring in good order and nuts and bolts tight. Tune it up so it pulls well at the bottom end. Carry spare drive doughnuts and learn how to change them (Imp week point). Hope this helps. Michael

  2. Hi Nick   I have sent you an email with some contact details for my Dad - Bill Rosten who has run an Imp for a number years and will point you in the right direction for solutions.   The transmission is the weak point. Comp. donuts are a good idea. See the Red line Oil treatment thread although i don't know if Dad has used this yet.   Don't sit there spinning the wheels. The diff will break.  - advise i had from Dave Heale for my Escort holds true for the Imp as well !!   Mark

  6. Hi Nick,
Re your Imp rubber drive donuts. It is a good idea to look at their condition before you start with close inspection of the bonding between the rubber and the tubes. Roll the joint round and look for any splits. When taking spare rubber donuts as replacements during an event it is a good idea to have them pre compressed using a ring of jubilee clips (so they are ready to fit). No worries though, they either have to be in poor condition or you have to give them some stick prior failure.
    Have a good time Jonathan
