My Exeter

Just got home after a really enjoyable Exeter. Running quite early at no 106 we didn't have many delays and did all the hills before Exeter in the dark. This meant there was no possibility to look down Normans Hump and compare it to the pictures! I didn't have any trouble but some of the later numbers told me that both Normans Hump and Clinton had the inside of the first corner cut up very badly.

Clearing Simms was the highlight of my trial. I had only done it once before, more than 10 years ago when running a big engine. Some say it was easy this year but I will put it down to driving skill! I thought Fingle was rough. I enjoyed it but I should think the guy in the Carlton in Class 0 must have loved it!

Complaints, well yes, the Trecarn. I know the meal has to be canteen food but I think its taken a turn for the worse since it changed hands. Then there is the smell of musty rotting wood in the corridors! If its that or not have a big manifestation I suppose we will have to put up with it but I hope the committee take it up with the management.

How was your Exeter?

Nexen 175/13

Hi,
Can anyone tell me the best (cheapest) place to get the Nexen sb802 175/13's?
Thanks in advance
Phil

Convert OS co-ordinates into Latitude and Longitude.

Happy New Year to all!

Some of you may find the link below useful. I’ve no doubt that some are already aware of such convert programs, but for those of you that aren’t………..

This programme converts OS Grid references into Latitude and Longitude references for use with Sat Nav equipment; Pretty useful when trying to find places on modern Sat Nav equipment when supplied with an OS reference.

At present the converter requires you to know the two letter prefix of the 100Km by 100Km grid in which your co-ordinate is located. The converter will not tell you which two letter grid the OS Landranger sheet number is part of. Example OS sheet number 202 is solely located in grid SX. But OS Sheet number 192 is across the boarder of Grid SS, ST, SX and SY, so you have to know which grid your co-ordinate is in. Be carful! Information about which letter grid the sheet number is in is shown on each Land ranger map.

Russ is working on a revision of his programme which is cully compatible with OS sheet numbers……..I’ll keep you posted.

The link to the converter programme is……….

A note from Russ Hore the author is below……………

“More than happy for you to put a link on your page.

As I said the program is free but if you members feel like making a donation to the Mountain Rescue team of which I am currently Honorary Chairman we would be most grateful.

We accept online donations at http://www.ogwen-rescue.org.uk/

This is not required of course but we rely on donations.

Russ”

Hope this is useful to some

Cheers, Daniel Minett-Smith

New Year Challenge

Dave Halley from The Dellow Register had a couple of pictures arrive over Christmas and would love to know more about them, like Who, when and where. I think we may be defeated on this one but if anyone can......

E83W Brake Compression Tube

Can anyone assist me in understanding the working of the brake compression tube  - part no 2569 on the link attached http://www.smallfordspares.co.uk/plate.phtml?PlateID=5

I am determined to try and get some better braking from the cable & rod system I have on my car. I have read the description on Page 47 of Stephens - Ford Specials Book which seems to suggest that there should be some movement within this tube to allow the pedal pressure to close the compression tube whereby the spring inside is forced back to eventually apply the rear brakes. Or have I misunderstood it completely?

My tube seems to be completely solid, and I cannot see how you dismantle it to get to the spring inside - the nut on the end just rotates.

Alternatively has anyone got such an item they can let me have/ borrow etc?

Both Small Fords and the FSOC do not list this item within their spares lists.

Thanks
