Happy New Year to all!
Some of you may find the link below useful. I’ve no doubt that some are already aware of such convert programs, but for those of you that aren’t………..
This programme converts OS Grid references into Latitude and Longitude references for use with Sat Nav equipment; Pretty useful when trying to find places on modern Sat Nav equipment when supplied with an OS reference.
At present the converter requires you to know the two letter prefix of the 100Km by 100Km grid in which your co-ordinate is located. The converter will not tell you which two letter grid the OS Landranger sheet number is part of. Example OS sheet number 202 is solely located in grid SX. But OS Sheet number 192 is across the boarder of Grid SS, ST, SX and SY, so you have to know which grid your co-ordinate is in. Be carful! Information about which letter grid the sheet number is in is shown on each Land ranger map.
Russ is working on a revision of his programme which is cully compatible with OS sheet numbers……..I’ll keep you posted.
The link to the converter programme is……….

A note from Russ Hore the author is below……………
“More than happy for you to put a link on your page.
As I said the program is free but if you members feel like making a donation to the Mountain Rescue team of which I am currently Honorary Chairman we would be most grateful.
We accept online donations at http://www.ogwen-rescue.org.uk/
This is not required of course but we rely on donations.
Russ”
Hope this is useful to some
Cheers, Daniel Minett-Smith
I've always found the O.S. chart at http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/gi/nationalgrid/nghelp1.html gives a good idea which two character reference to use. Particularly if you remenber that a 6 dit reference of 000 000 is the bottom left hand corner (South West), and 999 999 is top right (North West). Dave Cook
