Mk1 Escort rear springs can anyone help

I have recently bought two supposedly heavy duty CD8 rallying springs for my Mk1 Escort ,which are being sent straight back as they are hopeless. Can anyone give me some advice on either buying some new springs or perhaps a contact to have my old springs rolled and set as they are looking a bit flat now. Any help would be much appreciated. 1. simon try to find some van or estate car spings (if you can find mk2 sprinngs they will fit if you trim the front bushes) I used a single leaf van and added my tired standard springs to it ( the mistake i made was setting them to much). however if you just want to reset your exsisting springs then you first need to find a blacksmith or farrier - yellow pages i presume- and make a setting tool. Heres how 1/4in plate 3in sq then 1/4in plate 1in wide weld this on edge around then edges of your flat plate then under your flat plate weld a square spike 3 to 4 in long that will fit into the square of an anvil. I don't know wether you would get enough heat into it with a gas torch I don't think so though as when i did mine i had all sorts of equipment available and and the blacksmith said to put it in a hearth. If you just want yours reseting making a tool is far the easiest way.        Thanks for helping us out on the Ilkley we got home ok and a guy reckons he can straighten it out but will still need some bits so will have to source them. Hope the info was useful. See you soon Dave Malin  01788561735 n Dave Malin
