Ford Pinto Engine Wanted

Any one got a Ford Pinto engine & gearbox for sail . It is required to fit into a Marlin the Exhaust need to be on the drivers side or a lot of rebuilding will be needed. A gearbox to fit would be good also . Also a prop shaft as this would need to be shortened to fit the marlin. I am in the Plymouth Area so The other end of the country would be no good unless th price was right.

  1. why a Pinto?   Aren't they a bit on the heavy side for a 2 litre?   Didn't Marlin, or their successors, produce a Pinto-engined version? 'T would be useful for getting "bits that fit?"   What about the 2 litre from a Granada/Scorpio?   Should be commonplace in scrappies by now?

  3. david i have a pinto engine complete do not know what it is worth but so am open to offers. Do not know what you are going to use it for but i use one in my escort and if i had known the hassle it would cause i would have used a crossflow considering power to weight and  getting everything to fit and work and all that. Every one tells me it is the wrong engine but i got it with the first car i had and i like to make life difficult.

  5. hi i also have a 4 speed gear box we live in  Rugby and depends how urgently you need them as to wether we can sort out some sort of transport or arrangements for getting the things to you if you are still interested. If you have a prop it is not a great job or great deal of expense to get it shortened mine cost about £50 with new uj's balanced etc at a local prop/gearbox specialist. my phone number is 07843269865

  6. I have found a Ford Kent engine & from all the replies i think this is the best one to use. Has anone changed a fiat twin_cam for a ford in a marlin is there any problems engine mounts etc. also what gearbox is best , & where is the battery relocated as it must be in the way of the exhaust 4 branch as it is now in the passengers side

  7. Hi Dave,   Have you checked out the Class 7 Spec Sheet on the ACTC Site http://www.actc.org.uk/class7/actc_tech_Class7_Marlin%20(1).pdf to make sure you stay legal?   Michael

  8. Far be it from me (2004's worst Marlin driver) to comment, but ... why are you thinking of swapping a Twin Cam for a Pinto? Conventional wisdom puts the ACTC-spec-listed engines in the following order: Fiat Twin Cam (best) > Ford Kent > Ford Pinto > BMC B-Series. The two Ford options have the advantage, over the BMC, of five-speed gearboxes although the B-Series has good bottom-end torque, especially with a single SU carb set-up. I know of at least two Marlins which are now Fiat-powered having previously been BMC-powered. Why not keep the Fiat engine - sooooo much easier.   Andrew
