Kyrle 2006

A long day.  I left home at 5.45am and returned 9.40pm.

Firstly well done to Paul's team a good trial.

It was the first time Dad (Bill Rosten Class 4 Imp) and I had done the trial.

Some great sections there. BurnBrae which was a down through a stream zigzag some trees, restart and then attack a tall bank with tree roots that had been really dug out by the upper classes was not in the consistent spirit of the rest of the trial. We did see a Class 4 Beetle climb it. On the other hand one Beetle (Nicola Wainwright) almost got towed into the trees and another was incouraged to take a 2nd and 3rd run at it resulting in a tree making decent inroads into the shell. Considering the rest of the trial the section was not worth its place.

The very next section would be improved with the ditch filled in to stop damage to the front end on the way in and the rear over hang on the way out if failed.

Pludds, Jack, Jill and Jacob's Ladder all stick out. Point & Press was a good finish to the trial. Didn' t Class 2 Hornet make it look so very easy. Some good climbs from the Escort boys as well while we were there.

An excellent day out in some beautiful countryside.

The few photos I took i'll post later.

  1. Thanks Mark for your kind comments. This was the wettest Kyrle for many years with a particularly big downpour in the Monmouth area on Saturday night, hence the hils were very slippery. The trial was won by Ross Norman in his Deere Special who dropped just 4 marks on one hill, well done. Results will be posted first class Tuesday and will appear on our club website www.rossmotorsports.co.uk  in due course. Stuart Harrold

  2. Stuart,  Thanks for help, to a humble photographer, the scenery was truly spectacular.    I have posted my first selection of Photos taken on Jack and Jill on my SMUGMUG site at http://hoits.smugmug.com/gallery/1397908/1/66097671 There is a passable photo of Andrew Martin's Spectacular climb of Jill, where he tried to emulate a Drag Racer by climbing the top half of the hill with his front wheels 3 feet in the air! If any competitor wants hi-res copies of my photos, contact me on Dave(underscore)Cook@blueyonder.co.uk .   Dave Cook

  4. Many thanks to Ross & District for another challenging trial, especially all of the marshals who ended up with a longer day than planned.   I would like to say a big thank you to the marshals and fellow competitors who came to the rescue when I got it wrong on Goldsmiths. The car was hanging over the edge of a steep drop and, after securing the front to a tree, required a lot of hard manual work to pull back onto the track.   The rest of the day was more a case of finishing in one piece ! The others in Class 5 were too good to keep up with.   Greg Dixon-Smith Morgan, Class 5
