Which vehicle!

Ladies/Gents.
Can anyone one give any advice on the following. I'm looking to start in Classical Trials in 07 and am thinking of either an MG Midget or a JZR (Morgan 3-wheeler Replica) both need a bit of work so any mods could be done then. Your comments (polite if poss!) appreciated. Thanks Steve

Milk Hall Farm Chesham

I have had an email from the owner of Milk Hall Farm, a well known trials venue in the early 70's. If anyone can help with information can they either post it here or email me at mleete24@hotmail.com - Michael

I live at what was Milk Hall Farm in Chesham and came across your interesting article below whilst researching the area.  I would be very interested if you have any photographs of the old farm, or the surrounding area as very little historical material appears to have been preserved.   Do you recall the name of the Farm owner or anything else about the area.

Thank you for any information you might be able to provide.

Ford 8HP & 10Hp Heads - Difference

I have been advised that putting a Ford 8HP head on a Ford 10 Hp sidevalve engine will increase the compression and thus gain some useful bhp. A contact has several heads but can anyone advise how you tell the difference between the two models?

Exe Valley Trial?

Copied from another forum:

"Do we have a Kickstart Club rep – think it is their event that goes into Ideford/Luton area – they’ve left a load of course marking stuff just across the ford at bottom of the lane that guy felled a tree across a couple of yrs ago. Not very good p.r."

This may have been the Crashbox Club event - the Exe Valley TRial? Anyone on here from the organising Club?

Tucks Cross Trial

Had an email from Nick Bowler who was recently posed this question:-

I wonder if you could help please? I am trying to find details of the
"Tuck Cross Trial", I had printed them from the web, but have lost them, and try as I may cannot find them nor can I remember details of the site from which I
took them. This Trial is regarded as a "classic", and takes place either in the
Wessex centre, or the South Western centre. Thanking you in advance.
D. Edmund Brady.

From the reference to "centre" I presume its a bike event. Can anyone shed any light.

Hello Gassers - Just to let you know that since I moved to Bromham 3 weeks ago I have been having major broadband problems. So normal service will resume as soon as possible. - Michael

Many thanks to Dick, Cliff, the Minehead Club and the many marshals who turned out on Sunday to put on a fantastic event in very difficult conditions.  I have never been so wet in 20 years of trialling as I was on Sunday! Despite this an excellent day of no-holds-barred trialling and yet another great Exmoor adventure

Edinburgh Trial - how was yours ?

Just returned after this weekend's excellent Edinburgh Trial.

A fantastic turnout of Liege, and mostly travelling together, so a true "Luxurience of Liege" could be seen by an appreciative public as well as a knowledgeable Trials community, (Matt even had a chap who had been driving past the "Bull i'Thorn" stop and come back to ask all about Tweetie Pie and where could he buy a kit to build one for himself ? (now there's a question).

We had everthing Liege this weekend, a supercharged car, a class 8 Fiat engined car and lots of Reliant engines in various stages of tune.
We also had cars running on the standard Avon SM's, cars running on Taxi tyres, and two running on the newly legal 15" rims with some very nice Firestone F 560 tyres.
Everyone finished, but nobody was able to claim Gold, - it was a tough trial and Litton Slack beat us all, Great Hucklow beat virtually all, and then a variety of other hills and restarts took their toll, (including Bamford Clough which nearly claimed Matt and I).
A super and genuine welcome at Hollinsclough Village Hall with a fantastic selection of home-made cakes and scones, (pronounce it as you will), to enjoy with your cuppa in the afternoon sunshine.
The colour for the weekend if you were driving a Liege appears to be Bronze, with serveral of us claiming one. We shall have to wait and see if the marshalls agree when the results are published.
A really good event, rough in places but a true challenge and well laid out so a big "thank you" to the organisers.

Great turnout at the dinner afterwards as well.

Hope you all had good homeward journeys.
All the best,
SimonR

route cards, Simon?

Hi Simon....I don't suppose you could encourage organisers to also 'do' route cards in the Tulip fashion, as done before by the MCC?

I found these a lot more useful than the written instructions, some of my passengers finding them easier to follow.
perhaps its because the tulip is less open to interpretation?
also, I have a young son who is an up-and-coming trials enthusiast....at least, as a passenger.
however, because he has a problem of an autistic nature, his reading may well be a bit.....open to interpretation? (he is, however, very rarely wrong..and could probably navigate me through the entire route of the past two edinburghs...)

a tulip on a roller would allow me to read the route whilst driving, much like the motorcyclists?

Ford Popular Trials car?

I know of an upright Ford Popular that may have a competition history as came from Essex and sports a Raymond Mays front suspension.

Was fully restored and MOT'd but I bought the engine for my Dellow now the owner is selling the car on with engine out but a spare 100E and Aquaplane etc.

Reckon it would make great trials car as all the welding was done to a good stanard then dry stored since.

Car Insurance

I have recently received a circular (read junk mail) from Lloyds TSB Car Insurance extolling their virtues - fair enough as I have had an account with them since 1949 when I was about 3 weeks old.   On the the reverse it says that if I want a copy of that letter in large print or Braille then I could ring a freephone number???????? - how well they know me!

classicford show

Just got back from santapod raceway brilliant show. I may be corrected but, I believe that I was probably the first trials car to go up the strip! Pulling what I feel was a respectable time of 17.024 and 76.41 mph over the 1/4 mile.  Also, there was a grass auto test where my poor Escort was triple (!) driven.  The inevitable happened and Paul Bartleman beat me by a whisper (IN MY CAR!) to win over all and was awarded for his success with a handshake by Tony Mason.  All said and done a grand day out Gromit!.

Maxey Classic Car Show - August 12th

For all those petrol heads out there in Trials Land, who may be planning their itinery for the coming months, now seems an ideal time to remind you of a very friendly Classic Car Show in an idylic lakeside location,  Maxey, which is a small village, to the north of Peterborough is holding it's 6th annual show.  Last year there were three Falcon members present, yours truly with his wares, brother Ed with his award winning Singer Chamois and Ted had his RAFA stall and that excellent Austin Ten raffle prize which I didn't win.  To date I have not seen a Trials Car at the show so you could be the first!

Ilkley Trial 06

had a good Ilkley Trial...even if somewhat handicapped by a general tyre pressure limit of 15psi....even for me in class 4....the results may well have been different if I had blagged a few less psi's at the appropriate times.....very wet trial..lots of grass to spin wheels on....pity we had to run the same pressures as class 7 and 8..

hilite of our day (with wife and 7 year old son as ballast) was a rousing clean of Watergate..(the Scapheap challenge hill).....nodoubt inspired by Robin Preedy's efforts as he was immediately in front......not many cleaned this hill, a lot getting to the 1 board but no quite conquering the twist in the tail left hander.....came away with a score of 103...again a reasonable score in the circumstances....

since there were only 2 of us in class 4....there were no class awards....pity we weren't amalgamated into other classes....???

also...no breakages.....either I'm getting old and soft-footed..or the Rapid is getting stronger??

nice (free) pork pie 'n pea's supper at the end...very welcome in view of the wetness....thank you Ilkley Club.....

Want to win awards in Classic Trials? My very successful Arkley-MG Midget is for sale. Won dozens of awards in the last few years including MCC "Triple" 2005. Trials car for sale........ Chris Barham

For Sale...    A 1930`s styled  replica of an Austin 7   biult by the Fisher Sports Car Company, this model is the called The Fisher Flyer,  its thought only 2 of these cars where biult by the company, this being the 2nd. This one was first registered in April 1979, as a Fisher Flyer. (as stated on the V5).
Its based on a modified Reliant Kitten chassis  with simular dimensions to the Liege`s.  Since purchased it`s had the Reliant rear axle replaced with a Bedford Rascel axle with the Liege modifications that allow Reliant half shafts to be used along with adapter plates allowing Austin 7 spoked wheels to be used.  This has given a very acceptable 1st and 2nd gears ideal for the "hills".
It has a very comprehensive biuld history  and was first purchased with the intention of competing in classic trials on 4 wheels rather than 2!  But lack of space and time has forced a reluctant sale.  It is taxed and tested till Dec 06 and ready to go!!! Priced at £4,000 ovno.  For more info and pictures  ring 01237 470514  ( N.Devon )   or email  NEVIL2@BTINTERNET.COM   or Muddyhell@btinternet.com.

Can the internet do it again???

Here's some items that might be of interest to the FWD (that's "F" for "front") fraternity, or even someone looking to build a rail or buggy:

An early Mk2 Golf GTi.  Not in itself an ideal car for trialling perhaps but it does have a 2.0 litre 8 valve Audi engine (K  Jetronic fuel injection) that goes like the proverbial off a shovel.  The gear box is good as well.  It also has various other bits that would be of interest to anyone who is into their Mk2 Golfs and would allow the purchaser to recoup some of the cost.  This can be delivered if you don't live too far from West Cornwall   I'm looking for £500.00  o.v.n.o.

Also available is a complete K Jetronic injection system plus 1.8 cylinder head with a good cam.  £50.00 the lot.

Also I have various Beetle bits too numerous to mention - give me a ring and I'll see what I can do

Contact Pete Barr on 01029 214468 or pbpclovermead@tinyworld.co.uk

As well as the above Dave Dyer wants to sell his Class 4 Beetle.  You might remember that this was the Class 4 car to beat in 2005 (the driver wasn't bad either!).  It has an Ade Marfell built engine that has been well maintained and comes complete with on board compressor and tank and various bits and pieces that would allow you to start trialling straightaway.  Dave is looking for offers in the region of £2.5k for this excellent car and then is off riding his bike around Europe.  Give him a ring on 01643 841139 or 07977 143644.  He doesn't have an e mail address which is why I've finally got round to doing this after promising to in February!

We're both looking forward to being inundated with calls.

Lands End Results

Now that you have all had time to peruse the Lands End results to death, what did you think of the new layout.
Did it make them easier to read?  Harder to read?   Easier to find stuff, or harder?
Is this layout better, worse or just different?
The MCC Executive would be interested to know your opinions.
If you just don't care one way or the other, let them know that as well and we can save the postage by not bothering to send you any results at all.

Bovey Down Classic Trial

Just got back from the very well organised 3rd, bovey down single venue classic trial .A total entry of 30 was a pretty good turn out for what was to be a fairly dry event resulting in 4 clean sheets( should have been 5 but ask Pete Hart about restart lines or boxes ). It was therefore down to special test times with the outcome being an overall win by one secand for Peter Mountain in the very nice dellow. Well done to Emma Robilliard  who also went clean in a class 4 beetle to keep the boys on their toes. All in all a cracking event with 25 hills and finished by about 4pm.
Well done to the organisers and marshals for a top day.           Nick Farmer

Kyrle 2006

A long day.  I left home at 5.45am and returned 9.40pm.

Firstly well done to Paul's team a good trial.

It was the first time Dad (Bill Rosten Class 4 Imp) and I had done the trial.

Some great sections there. BurnBrae which was a down through a stream zigzag some trees, restart and then attack a tall bank with tree roots that had been really dug out by the upper classes was not in the consistent spirit of the rest of the trial. We did see a Class 4 Beetle climb it. On the other hand one Beetle (Nicola Wainwright) almost got towed into the trees and another was incouraged to take a 2nd and 3rd run at it resulting in a tree making decent inroads into the shell. Considering the rest of the trial the section was not worth its place.

The very next section would be improved with the ditch filled in to stop damage to the front end on the way in and the rear over hang on the way out if failed.

Pludds, Jack, Jill and Jacob's Ladder all stick out. Point & Press was a good finish to the trial. Didn' t Class 2 Hornet make it look so very easy. Some good climbs from the Escort boys as well while we were there.

An excellent day out in some beautiful countryside.

The few photos I took i'll post later.

Bluehills Problems

I heard from Anne Whellock this morning :-

"Dear Classical Gas.  Just to say that Anne Whellock, driver and Esther Rossiter, navigator both walked away from the overturned Austin 7 Froghopper at the top of Blue Hills 2.  They drove to the finish and claimed their Class '0' tin medal and then drove to the B+B.  Sunday we started to drive home but the A30 is not a nice place to be with an overheating car so we called the RAC and come home on the back of recovery.  Bruised only.  Hayward turned his Dellow over at the same place.  And another Austin 7? Anyway,  thanks to all the marshals who were all there in a flash.  Anne Whellock"

My Land's End

I have spent most of the day sending a few images to the Land's End album. Amazing how slow the "old" dial up connection is. Most of them are the right way up, I will modify errors when I return home.
Unfortuneatly I witnessed more potentially serious incidents in one afternoon than I have witnessed since watching my first trial at Bluehills in 1970.
Two outfits, 71 and 73, overturning, two cars overturning, 529 and 250?, and one solo demolishing some observers/spectators. None of these incidents involved excessive speed, dangerous riding or driving, but all had the potential for serious injury, or worse.
Luckily all involved walked away unhurt, but no doubt have a few bruises today (Sunday).
I have included images of the 2 sidecars and 2 cars on pages 5 and 10 in a series of images. Take a look at them and remember both of the cars have the occupants still inside!! I have only included these images because I think it is time to think .- SAFETY.
I was unable to stay after 5.00pm and therefore was unable to get images of the last cars.

Traveling Marshall?

A slight surprise in my LE information pack - a bright orange arm band and a little travelling marshall's report booklet! Can't find any instructions other than what's on the booklet.

Straightforward enough I suppose except for a suggestion that "Unattended Vehicles" are reported.  What is the intention behind that one - anyone know? I am sure it isn't to catch out the unwary motorcyclist dodging behind a hedge to answer a call of nature ;o)

Looking at the Bishop Path special test, is it safe to assume that it will be nigh on impossible to do the obstacle course in under 10 seconds? I am not a good multi tasker and trying to count to ten in my head whilst negotiating the obstacles will certainly mean some horizontal motorcycling :o(

Must check the weather forecast - last one I looked at said dry through to Saturday morning.

Passenger needed for Lands End

Hi Mike

I am in desperate need of a navigator for the Lands End this weekend.  Can you possibly post a message on Classical Gas for me please.  I'm Derek Reynolds, starting from Michaelwood running number 216 and can be contacted on 01670 733122.

Many thanks
Derek

Note from Michael - Derek drives the well known Daf click here for a picture http://www.classictrials.co.uk/0302Derek.jpg

Trials car project wanted.

After the points of view and comparisons of my Dellow etc last year.I am still looking for a Ford/ Austin based trials car project.I have lots of bits and ideas but nothing to bolt them too. What do you have?
P.S. My Dellow is not for sale!!!

Trials Pictures

Is it my imagination or are the pictures from the MCC official photographer pretty bad. I was looking at some of the proofs sent to competitors on The Exeter shot at Fingle and even to my amature eye they are awfull. Trees in the way, bad angles, to many rear views etc etc. No where near as good as the guy that used to do them or Derek Hibbert.

Anyway Mike Hayward and I will be around and about with cameras on The Lands End and you won't complain about value for money with my pictures as provided I can send them electronically I don't charge for them.

The plan is to be at Sutcombe, Daracott or Crackington in time for the later bikes, stay there for the first 60 to 100 cars. Then move onto Hoskin where we will be just above the class 8 restart (so if you are in class 7 and you fail your restart no picture!). We should see most of the mid numbers there before moving to Blue Hills to see the tail end of the field.

We are not planning to make a DVD but if we do take any video I think I have found a way to put it on the net without falling foul of my ISP's bandwidth limits.

I will be doing live reports to the blog (see above) and I welcome as much help as possible.

There are always Dutton Phaetons on E-Bay, but this one caught my eye is it is an uncompleted kit and therefore raring to be built from scratch as a Class 7 car.

Presidents Trial

Yes, regs are out for the Presidents Trial (running on 2nd April), with a cheap entry of £20 and most main trialling clubs invited. The regs and entry form should hopefully be attached to this message. Entries will close on 27th March. Can anyone wishing to enter who is unable to access the attached please email me at celfworks@hotmail.com

This year’s event will be utilising more Duchy of Cornwall woodland. Although moving away from the trial’s traditional roots, it will make for a much smoother running event, both PR-wise and on the day. It also enables the trial to run over a shorter route of approx 50 miles.

There are five very good new "forestry track" sections in total, together with Trebrownbridge, Trenay and the popular Polvean from 2005. Classic lanes, such as Looe Mills, Tawnamoor and Bucklawren will still be included.

Please contact me for further information. Thomas Bricknell

Scrappy racers

Don't know if yesterday's episode was a repeat but it featured the usual motley sort of crews attempting to build what was basically a classic trials car...great to see trials on telly even if they did call it a 'hillclimb'.  Slightly disappointing to see the 'expert' commentator was a sporting trials guy and not one of our sports' characters...

Looked a fantastic section too.  Was it from the Ilkley or was it a 4wd hill?  If the Ilkley had 15 hills like that in similar condition I reckon there'd be a lot more making the trek up north.

don't be put off by the first photo, they do get better.

These are only quick downloads of the photos, with poor resolution, and reduced size to make loading them on the Web quicker.

If you want any photos, I can e'mail the originals, or get copies printed.  7 X 5 Photos cost 20p plus postage(which can expensive).  If you want either let me know on e'mail at Dave_Cook-at-Blueyonder.co.uk( replace the -at- with an @ to avoid me getting spam.)

Basic penalties

Posted on behalf of Paul Allaway (Red Astra)

In March’s edition of Restart both Terry Coventry and Myke Pocock’s reports on the Cotswold Clouds commiserated with Kelly Thomas on her failure to win the event after collecting penalty points on a special test, despite winning the event on the hills.  This to me crystallises a problem, the ACTC has both with the Wheelspin and Crackington Championships a lack of continuity in the basic penalty system.  Now let me make it clear straight away that this is not a dig at Stroud Motor Club who put on an excellent event.  For as long as I’ve been competing it has been necessary to read both the entry form and the route card to find out how the basic penalties are applied.  Now I’m sure there are lots of people reading this who have no problem with this but I feel its about time penalties for hitting markers and special test penalties were brought into line.  When you compete in an MCC event whether it be the Exeter, Lands End or Edinburgh you know that its clean or fail on the hills and mess up on a special test and the same penalty applies.  Now for instance on the Exmoor Clouds there’s no penalty for hitting markers but on the Tamar touching a marker collects a penalty.  The six point penalty on the Stroud special tests is different to the Kyrle’s special test failure.  I think we should have some recognised structure to prevent the ‘Kellygate’ situation arising again and I feel this is a paperwork exercise not a logistical nightmare for the clubs.  Whatever is decided whether it be touching or not touching the markers or slowest time plus 10 seconds, six point penalty or just a fail I have no problem with this so long as its applied to every event in the ACTC’s Championships, then everyone knows where they stand.  A further point if this system were adopted it should be printed on the route card before the first section as almost certainly we will have some newcomer to trialing  who will not be aware of this situation.

Number plate colours

Hi All

I thought there was a highway law that stated the colour of number plates.

Pre a certain date (jan'73?) you could use black/chrome(white) front & back and after that date it had to be black lettering with a white plate on the front and yellow on the rear.

Myke's Northern Video prompted this.

Mark

Email notification of message board

Just wondering if its my email account or this msn community site: checked my email today (last checked Tuesday) and theres an email dated 28/2 of Simon Woodall's post 'Help Wanted' which he posted on 01/02 ! Wonder which server that had been stuck on......(and before you ask its not an excuse for not offering to help - I saw the original post weeks ago...)
Talking of messages I notice that the 'What do I do now?' thread shows 30 replys but when I look it jumps from message 1 to message 16 - so is the system pruning messages?

Just curious

ACTC Dinner Dance - Put the date in your diaries

Right, this years ACTC Annual awards presentation and dinner dance will be held on Saturday 13th May.
We have reluctantly changed the location this year and brought it slightly further down into the South West. This is simply due to getting a better deal from the hotel and reducing ticket prices from last year. The location therefore will be the Holiday Inn at Taunton. It is literally just off the motorway so access is good. Room prices are significantly reduced and will be confirmed soon, and there is also a Holiday Inn Express next door where rooms are even cheaper.
Please make a note to put this in your diaries now, all are welcome although if you are not in the ACTC please contact me so I can send you details. All those who are ACTC registered will recieve invitations automatically in the next few weeks.

Hope to see a good turnout again so we can make it as big a success as last year.

ACTC monitoring form's

I would just like to say a big thank you to all respondents to my ACTC monitoring forms throughout the past year, however there are still a very few outstanding (Pete) and if the sheets could be returned before they crumble to dust it would be very helpfull (Nick). If you could Bolt your form to something solid next time Dick that would be most helpfull as well.

PS, many thank's for your kind comments Ian, it meant a lot.

My Cotswold Clouds

Mike Hayward and  decided to concentrate on taking pictures and trying to make a video. See http://www.classictrials.co.uk/Gas06031.htm We met up for breakfast with Dave Cook who was also taking pictures which can be found by following http://groups.msn.com/ClassicalGasForTrialsenthusiasts/general.msnw?action=get_message&mview=1&ID_Message=2633

We started the day at Crooked Mustard which was very dry and easily on for the 7's and 8's. The heavier saloons were more challenged and well done to those that got up. The secret isn't "keep banging the nuts together" its "drive round the step not over it".

Later we spent some time at Ham Mill, Merves Swerve and Climperwell, sending live reports to my blog as we went. Talked to loads of other spectating triallers including Andrew Rippon, David Heale and Nick Farmer. Everything seemed to run smoothly on the event and we were back in Bedfordshire by 18.15.

How was your Cotswold Clouds?

Cotswold Clouds Photos

I have added my Photos from todays Cotswold Clouds.  They are in 4 Galleries:-

Photos at the Start:-

Photos at Nailsworth Ladder 1st half of Entry List

Photos at Nailsworth Ladder 2nd half of Entry List

Photos at Climperwell

If have loaded Low resolution, poor qualities of all my reasonable photos, over the next few days I will try to Edit and Load better quality copies of the beter ones.
You can help me decide which ones are the best by using the comment facility on each photo.

If you want better quality copies of any ofthem let me kow either via the board or by the comments feature and I will organise things.

Finaly some of these will be available on Michael's DVD, let us know which ones you want.

What do I do now?

Having just secured at a vey reasonable cost, a 205 GTX 1400cc, I wish to tap into the wealth of experiance within the group. In an attempt at the forthcoming Northern Trial.
Raising the rear end of the wee pug should be "relatively" simple. however can anyone provide a simple solution for the front end, ie. standard springs +2" if such a thing exists??
Sump and tank guards have been aquired, any other protection required?
The wheels are currently 14" , can any one advise on the most suitable tyre for this event/ car?

Think most other items have been thought through, but any assistance greatfully recieved.

Event Number placement

I didn't realise how important this is until the night shift at Waterloo.

We were up on the top bends and it was quiet difficultt to spot where the competitors had placed their numbers to mark my card. I was mindful that i didn't want to shine a bright light onto the mirrors to blind the driver.

A reflective number would be too expensive for the MCC but maybe a reflective red tape around the holder would be a good idea. Red as it faces to rear.

Bikes were much better even some were lit (!!) and others even called their number out when passing - really helpful lads!!

I wonder if Tim will put a restart between those bends next year. Nice addition for the reds!!

Stupid question?

Does anyone know of a source for the stick-on numbers that we're all supposed to have in the middle of our coloured 'class' discs? The old advice used to be to use the numbers used for motorcycle registration plates but, of course, no one produces plates this way any more, at least they don't seem to in Gloucestershire. Any ideas?

Copy of 'Wheelspin' for sale

I notice there is a copy of Austen May's Wheelspin for sale on Ebay (not by me!) - item no.3373757054 finishes tomorrow Tues 24th Jan at 18.48.  It is a 1971 paperback edition and seems a bit expensive at £15 start plus £5 postage. but an interesting read for Trialists, especially if you like the pre-war MG's etc.

Marshalling with Mike Hayward at one of the new Priors Holt sections. Everyone was getting up ours so I managed to take a few pictures some of wich are posted on www.classictrials.co.uk also did a blog at http://spaces.msn.com/members/classicalgas/

It all seemed to go very well apart from an unfortunate accident to the GN driver who I heard was OK, hope so. I would love some more pictures or notes, either posted here or emailed to mleete24@hotmail.com

Wanted - Acerbis roadbook holder

I am delighted to have persuaded my brother to join me in bike class on the Lands End Trial - we will both be on Yamaha TTR250s. Thanks to Simon for getting Trev's membership sorted quickly to enable us to get our entries in. I am amazed how quickly the ACU dealt with our licences - excellent!

The point of this messgae is to ask if anyone out there has a s/h Acerbis roadbook for sale, or knows of one for sale, please?

I am not very good with the Tupperware and the thought of spoiling our event with a bodged roadbook holder exploding or leaking isn't attractive!

Sadly I was suffering the flu so didn't get to see any of the Exeter although Andy (fellow Devon TRF member) managed a gold on his Kawasaki outfit apparently.

Best wishes

Classic Trials on Wikipedia

I have started a Classic Trials article on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_Trials If you haven't visited Wikipedia check it out. Anyone can edit it, have a go and lets make it a showcase for our sport. You don't even need to log on to Wikipedia to edit it, but I encourage you to do so then your name will appear beside the edits. To be honest I haven't done a lot of work on this as I lifted the text from Pat's site. (with her retrospective blessing).

There is one on Dellows already http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dellow I didn't start this one but I have "improved" it!

Power of the internet???

Just seeing if the internet is as powerful as claimed...

I am badly in need of a passenger for the Clee Hills.  Its the Camel Vale dinner the Friday before so that's removed a few possibilities.  My boys are both committed rugby - so there goes another chance.  My other (and far better) half wouldn't go in a trials car for all the tea in China and India.

So I'm a bit stuck.  If anyone out there fancies a day on a top trial in a class 4 Beetle, please do give me a ring on 07879 454268 or e mail me on this address.

Vintage/Classic car Trials

Hi all
Advise greatfully recieved!
I have a 1929 Morris Minor Tourer, which is kept as it left the factory (you need to, to run in Light car events in the vscc). Trouble is the vscc only run 1 light car trial a year. They do run 5 other trials but these are a bit tough on a 20bhp car, as they are designed around specials and very poweful vintage cars (you probably know about the GNs and Nash's that are chain driven to a solid back axle, and some have about 150 bhp as well!)

So i was wondering, are there any other suitable trials out there for my type of vehicle?

20 bhp sounds very poor, but with it's light weight, short wheelbase and very good ground clearance, these Minors and the similiar Austin 7 Chummies can worry themselves up some interesting sections

By the way, the light car vscc trial is held on 2/4/06 near Llandrindod Wells, if anyone has a pre 1931 car with modest weight & power!

My Exeter Trial

I had a really enjoyable Exeter passengering for Simon Groves in his Escort. I liked the re-introduction of Meerhay, There seemed plenty of grip on Normans Hump and Clinton and we flew up both although I don't think it was so easy for the re-starters. Don't know if it was my imagination but Tillerton didn't seem so rough this year.

We had eports that the Cornich Escort drivers running at the front of the field had all climbd Simms so there was no way Simon was going to fail and we flew up. There was quite a long delay at Tipley, caused by almost all the 7 and 8's failing the restart. We climbed all the hills and claimed a gold. Simon hadn't planned to do the lands end but I think he will change his mind now!

I thought it was a good and well balanced event. It didn't seem as rough as usual but then I wasn't in my car! How was your Exeter Trial?
