  2. No Simon, I just spotted it last night.  I love the commentary for the 4-up allard/v8 special going over the step on nailsworth 'ride 'em cowboy' with a 1940s RP accent...   More seriously might this help prove historic use of RoW used in the Cotswold Clouds....

  3. Well it does, absolutely, but I guess we would need Andrew Brown's input on whether this is needed for the sections shown.   Where did all the trees go on "Axe" ? Great to see "Juniper" in live and moving use too.   Agreed re the commentry, my first thought was "Pathe News" at the cinema in the old days, (my mum told me, you understand, because I am of course far too young to remember that far back !!   ) SimonR

  4. I notice a few, if not more in my copy of 'More Wheelspin' that I picked up in a bookshop in Penzance a week ago! GOM 2 - was owned by Geoff Mansell.

  5. You might spot also, the "extraordinary car" climbing Ham Mill, and later the 2nd Allard on Nailsworth is the Geof Imhof car, KLD 5,  now owned by Roger Ugalde.  You can see from this car why the 1/3rd overhang rule was introduced.   Roger U assures me that you can still see the weld marks on the chassis where this extension was added.
The car leaving the start just after the starter has been introduced is the Onslow-Bartlett mercury Spl.
The second car attempting Juniper is Ron Lowe in his pre-Dellow special.   And to fill in the Dellow link, The Frazer-Nash BMW EMO174 on Hodgecombe is Ken Dellingpole

  7.   First to say thanks to Ian for finding this wonderful film. To add my bit the "Onslow-Bartlett mercury Spl" Simon mentions is I believe still owned by Mike Furse. He has had it for many years but only trialled it once, at a Herts Constabulary Tring Park Trial in 1976. Also competing was Michael Leete, T-P father and son, Simon Groves Dad, Simon Woodall and many more ............   Michael   ALLCOMERS PCT 4th April 1976

  9. Now this is exactly what the sport needs for promotion! Surely someone out there can persuade a TV company to take an interest (Top Gear/ 5th Gear?). It'll make a change from all this boring boy-racer circuit-testing and playing. It would be good to get back to the real world of Club sport and normal(?) people.   What a find!

  10. The Lands End was on Top Gear a few years ago - before it changed to its current format - but even then their pitch was very much about "wacky racers".  Not very good publicity at all.   All it atracted was interest from the banger racing crowd.

  11. Skud marks -  I am putting some thought into how we can use this for promotional purposes and whether I can obtain a copy.  Have to second what Simon says about the current tv progs on terrestial though.  The sport could be killed off if people like clarkson get involved - driving a 4x4 up a scottish mountain over SSIs was just one of his many stupid stunts - right at the time we were up against all the Row issues...he would wreck out reputation of caring for the communities and landowners whose support we depend on   in 2 minutes flat, think nothing off it and move on to the next subject as long as he thought it made good tv...sorry, end of sermon but we do need to protect our reputation very carefully...

  12. Oh yes, I wholeheartedly agree there.....far better we actually keep a low profile.   After all, our sport contains all that remains of the TRUE motorsporting enthusiast, in my view.   Plus, it's full of people who can actually see the POTENTIAL in EVERY vehicle they come across.......     Imagine the field day Clarkson would have , had he come across Old Spot Piglet?

  13. I have this Gloucester Trial clip on reasonable quality VHS although the very beginning with the Pathe intro is missing. Can anyone confirm the year? - I think 1948 for some reason which now escapes me.   I also have a rather fine silent film of the 1934 Colmore, mainly shot on Station Lane, Chalford; and another of the 1936 Fedden (thanks to Pete Hart) featuring hills now used for the Cotswold Clouds.   My medium-term plan is to transfer them all to *.wmv format so that they can be downloaded from my Wheelspin website - but don't hold your breath.   Andrew

  14. I did restrain my comments about Clarkson and believe me, they are plentiful. I agree that if it isn't good TV he crucifies it and this wouldn't help. (However, one can't help but enjoy him ....."boys behaving badly"..............aren't we all to a certain extent?). But this sort of old film would be great publicity for what we do now.............especially as some of you identify cars that still run. This could be the theme and starting point................

  15. Well chaps I can take credit for this clip and fill in a few gaps as the story is amazing   In the mid 1980's my brother in law (who knows sod all about cars so a Morgan could be a MG etc) told me he'd been off sick and just happened to mention he'd seen a kids programme (Windmill) which featured some funny cars like mine - an early Dellow CAB 282   I got hold of a copy via back door and sure enough it was this clip of the 48 Gloucester trial   Better still it features my Dellow protoype  (no 3) CAB 282 an early Austin 7 chassis car owned by Lewis Tracey who later partnered hos great rival Ken Rawlings of Buttercup fame on a Monte Carlo rally in a Standard Vanguard This is the car inthe early sequence seen driving away   Other Dellows are Mick Heighway (OP 3834) who was Ron Lowes dentist  (The Low bit of Dellow) and Eric Penn in a beautifully bodied HAB 245 Dellow and EDE 384 another important car   CAB & EDE still happily survive!  Sadly tho this clip came from a whole bunch of 16mm which was consigned to landfill by the BBC apparently and was only saved as random clips were saved to provide some representative material - probably becaiuse if featured Kenneth Horne?   Yes I have better definition DVD copies available @ 짙7 each inc P&P   Peter Seabrook-Harris     peter.seabrook@pearlanddean.com

  16. The You Tube link in the first posting above no longer works as the video has been re-loaded. The best place to start is now here - http://www.wheelspin.info/references/gloucester1.htm - but I would say that, wouldn't I?   Andrew

  17. I currently have the Gloucester Challenge Cup. Does anyone want the names off it before I have to return it to the club. Not sure when it changed from a "Classic" trial to a "Sporting" Trial though. Names on it date back to 1947.
