Eligible Vehicle for Trialling

Would there be any way that a commercial vehicle, and in particular a pickup, be eligible for trialling without possibly having to go into Class 8 as a special? I see that the Blue Book Section J 59 and 62 mentions cars and saloon, closed, sports or touring car but is that it with no leeway?

    From what I remember I don't think you are allowed any commercial vehicle even in class 8 - Long ago I thought of building a special based on a Bedford Rascal Chassis but I think reading the MSA Blue Book put an end to that idea.

    I believe vehicles derived from commercial vehicles are specifically banned

    I might be wrong but i thought the burlington arrow used fairly recently was built upon a sherpa van chassis and ran in class 8?

    When I asked this question I had in mind specifically a Skoda Favorit Fun which is technically a pickup but has an extra two seats which fold down and can be seen as a leisure vehicle. Why then are commercials banned when they are allowed in circuit racing etc (VW Van, pickup racing etc)

    Since virtually every half-hearted Marlin, [or indeed, Liege,] competing has major components from commercial vehicles incorporated, I don't think even Simon Woodall would complain at a class 8 special built upon the Suzuki Supercarry chassis.....especially since the resulting car would be so vastly different to the original vehicle? [steering, driver/passenger seat location, fuel tank, gearbox gearchange, modded front suspension, etc would all have needed re-locating, or drastically altering...unless one was seriously planning to have the driver seated in front of the front wheels......great for visibility, rubbish for traction...]

    The forbidding of commercials really refers to the use of a production commercial vehicle [van, etc]..rather then the components of same...AFAIK, use of commercial vehicle components isn't barred.....it's an ''appearance'' thing.
