Hello all,
I sent my entry form for the Allen trial some weeks ago. I hadn't heard anything back from BMC so I gave Carlie Hart a call.
It turns out that my entry from was never delivered to Carlie, and as such I do not have a place in the trial. Carlie informs me that the Allen is fully subscribed and I am now 5th on the reserve list. Bummer! Thanks royal mail.
If anyone has a place in the Allen but can't make it please could you let Carlie (or me) know and maybe I'll get a start number.
Kind regards,
from an all fired up with nowhere to go, Daniel Minett-Smith!
Hi I'm not defending Royal Mail here but is it possible you didn't put the correct postage on your entry? If you didn't I'll explain what happens. The item is put aside for a charge to be raised, this is 짙1 plus the underpaid postage. This can take 3-4 days, it is then forwarded as a second class item, allow another 4 days. When it reaches it's destination office it is put aside for a charge card to be written out, this can take 2 days plus another because once written out they have missed that days delivery. In my delivery office of aprox 120 delivery's there are three people that spend two hours a day each writing these cards out. If they write one card a minute thats 짙360 plus the underpaid amount a day! Times that by the amount of deivery offices and thats a lot of money. The recpient then has to put the correct amount of stamps on the card and return it, a minimum of 2 days. If you go to collect the item, my office will not show you the item until you've paid as they have had so many people not wanting the item once they've seen what it is. I have had peope on my deivery telling me that it has taken SEVEN WEEKS to receive the item. The backlog is so bad in my office that they occasionally just send them out as they have no more storage space. So you may get your entry back and have to pay for the privelige. Don't take a chance if it's urgent, take it to your post office (if it's not been shut) and get them to check it. Lesson over. Cheers Nashy P.S. It's not often things go missing, there normally chewed up in the machines or vague addresses. Thank god we didn't handle those two cd's of revenue & customs.
ReplyDeleteHi Nashy, Thank you for the lesson. One A5 sized envelope containing two sheets of A4 paper and one standard size cheque. Clearly addressed with one first class stamp on the front, hand posted into my local postbox. Pretty standard if you ask me? The aim of my original message was to hunt down any entrants in the 2007 Allen trail who could not make the event on Sunday and hence give me a chance at getting a start postion. Not to start a debate about the effeciency of the britsh postal service. For the record I have never had any other issues/problems with the Royal mail, but on this occasion I am a little frustrated. Regards Daniel Minett-Smith
ReplyDeleteGoing to hijack this topic to say what a great time I had yesterday on my first classic as a competitor for nealy eight years - makes me wonder why I waited so long. Wondering if anyone who saw the blue Imp going up Big Uplands (sadly not to the top) thought it looked as completely out of control as it felt? I was probably going a "bit" fast ... Now, where to find a couple of inches more ground clearance at the back?
ReplyDeleteHey Mark, if you find an answer to that, my Skoda could do with about another 6 inches! Uplands............how rough does trialling get? Those sort of tracks are really beyond anything other than a special.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Mark - glad you enjoyed the Allen. When are you out next?
ReplyDeleteResults now available on the Bristol MC website. www.bristolmc.org.uk Pete
ReplyDeleteMany thanks to the organisors for a great day out and their help and support. As usual I've loaded a few of my photos on Smugmug, with some more of John Walker to follow. They can be found here: http://hoits.smugmug.com/Classic%20Trials/418482 I hope you all enjoy them. As usual I am happy to provide high quality copies of any of these photos if anyone wants them. ReplyDeleteCan I say how much Chris and I enjoyed the Allen, but I would say that as I won my class! My first, I think, class win on a 1 day event. Thanks to Pete Hart and all his team. Stuart Harrold
ReplyDeleteThat's what I call a good trial. Well organized, good hills, good company, lovely weather and then we are spoilt with professional standard photos by Dave. Thanks to all
ReplyDeleteI should thank Rory for his video's as well, but I was trying to forget failing that restart!
ReplyDeleteGreat video footage. Is there not a rule regarding tyre size only allowing one size differance from front to back? I would also beinterested to see how some of those front suspentions handle on the road!
ReplyDeleteTwo sections I think - ie run 185s on the rear, you can run 165s on the front - not so sure about different diameters tho. As for handling - John has before now said he'll be taking it easy coming away from clubnight trial in the yeller Dutton, complete with spare wheels and all other trialling junk strapped in and on, and I have to work to stay with him in a standard Caterham . .. so I guess the Dutton on its nice soft suspension handles pretty well. Bri
ReplyDeleteTwo sections different is correct. In fact Dellows have a concession to run a 4.50 front with a 165 rear which would work out as three sections different. Check the Crossply / Radial equivalence table in the ACTC rules. http://www.actc.org.uk/association/actc_rules_2006.pdf
ReplyDeleteThe reason for that concession is they were supplied new
ReplyDeletewith 4.50 on the front and 600 which is 165 on the rear.
